We have had a small holly bush growing near the door since we moved in here. I've been meaning to move it around the back for a while, since it has grown to the extent that getting around it usually involves getting spiked. It's always tricky inheriting a garden. Ours came from a pair of keen gardeners and the first summer we got the house it was absolutely beautiful. However, since then, it's been very difficult to manage and I've found all the things that they must have grown over the years as they've popped back up again. keris and I are quite keen to get it all into order, but we do rather lack the necessary time to do it. Most of today was spent outside and we have barely done anything noticible.

It isn't that the guy before was that keen, it is more that there is just quite a lot of it to look after, so we are in the main barely managing.

I recommend Telescopic loppers and leather gauntlets!

Also watch out if its likely to interfere with foundations of the house...

When we were trimming the main holly hedge back I went out with big gloves, a biker jacket, and a scarf around my face.

I've got long loppers, but not ratcheting ones. Have you got a ratcheting pair, and do you think they work well?
