I find this a difficult thing to deal with or even write about. I'm one of nature's optimists. A battler to core. Get the crap knocked out of me. Get up. Get going again. And repeat. It'll happen again. So what. I'm Bittereinde stock. Unless you are of this type -- or very very lucky -- writing for a living will destroy you. It doesn't mean the ( Read more... )

You do what you have to do to survive. Just know that you have the backing of friends around the world willing to what they can to help.

And when you finally have an address in Tasmania, you'll get your own copy of Red Adam's Lady in the mail.

The Australian govt was prepared to take a punt on your future work :) They don't hand those visas out just on the basis of what you've done, but what they think you're likely to do.

I'm betting on the monkey bouncing back.

The good news is that Australia is a great place to live if you're poor. The weather is nice, you can grow different things all year round. You can get a rainwater tank. You can pick food off of trees and it eat it! Just remember, Uncle Monkey, that I lived for four years in Australia, and for three of those years I supported myself as a street performer only working 3 days a week. There were times when things were tight, but by the grace of God I never went hungry. When I think that times are tough now, I just remind myself of what I've lived through in the past. You'll be fine, and the two of you will find a way to manage. My aunt and uncle live just to the north of where you'll be moving, on the mainland, and it's amazing how well they do just making homemade jams and cakes and selling them at the various markets. It's a great place to live, and I envy you.
