Two days ago I saw Yusef Lateef play with his quartet in San Francisco. He is 85 years old and has been alive through most of "jazz" history. His performance has impacted me in a way I cannot describe. The nature of his being is so humble and gentle. He has experienced much hardship in his life; he is black and lived the first part of his life
