Not much forward motion on the Uberlist in April, but a few things divvied off.
4. Read a book - Apr
Continued a tear through the Discworld books, which went less than stellarly, since my choices were EQUAL RITES and THE COLOUR OF MAGIC. Each with entertaining aspects but none of the heft of what I told would be some of the truly great DW novels (happily, some of those were just around the corner). But I also read Carrie Vaughn's KITTY AND THE MIDNIGHT HOUR, since I dug her work on WILD CARDS. KITTY is breeze and entertaining, and if it didn;t make me want to go out and read the rest of the novels in short order, it did make me wonder if it will ever be adapted for television or film.
49. House of Sparrows entry - Apr
It was sad to go back to the House to pan something, but man,
my negative thoughts about SEVENTH SON were something I had to get off my chest.
84. A movie by a new female filmmaker - Apr
Thanks to the San Francisco Film Fest I got an early look at Eden, a drama based on and within the French house music scene by Mia Hansen-Love (based largely on the DJ career of her brother, present at the screening).
95. Something off the Rosenbaum 1000
Also at the Film Fest I saw Wanda, the only feature by artist Barbara Loden, which would otherwise count as a movie by a new female filmmaker, but I'm not lazy enough to wipe off two items from the Uberlist with one event. So there.
