Vice is Nice, but Wincest is Best?

Okay, so I have this thing (it’s not a *problem, per sé*, despite what my family might say - because problems you acknowledge & then try to fix them and I have no intention of doing either), with blindly accepting social mores (read: I have zero tact & almost no friends). I have a rambling thing too, also not a * ( Read more... )

Sorry, I came here through liz_marc's post where you linked to this. And it's nice to see someone who shares the same point of view. For me, consent is the most important factor. And in society incest is often equated with rape or child abuse, if not treated as synonymous, which to me just does not ring true. In many societies it is actually preferred to marry a cousin, etc. (India being a nation that had this as a prevalent practice among some). The incest taboo is universal, but the definition of incest varies culturally.

Sam and Dean Winchester could be described as heroes, and as such operating on a level above their contemporary humans, subject to a set of rules which differ from those of the common man.

I think that describes the feeling of many wincesters.
I'd never force someone to read wincest (HA, as if I could!), and if someone does not like wincest, or is even disgusted by wincest, that is fine by me. That's their taboo. But that doesn't mean I should be unable to explore it through intellectual discussion and

Thanks for your comments! You are right about consent, as soon as I read that a light bulb went on over my head. So important.

Incest, to me, grosses me out. However, I have friends who enjoy incest pairings and some fictional [and bands, yes, I flow with RPS] brothers/sisters have had actions to cause me to couple them in my mind...yet I always stop myself and go "ick."

But I'm not going to bitch about people writing it. Honstely, it's their thing. And as long as a fic gives me warning of what's in it [usually via pairing]..I skip over it. No harm. No foul. Everyone goes home happy and doesn't get flamed.

Simply put..if you don't like it. Don't read it. I wish people would follow that, though.

On another note: I LOVE how you put up someting on the Roman/Greek pathon. XD Zeus/Jupiter IS the younger brother of Hera/Juno. They are married. [Of course..Zeus screwed around with the ladies, young boys, and animals[i think] but that's ANOTHER story XD]

I think this *as long as a fic gives me warning of what's in it* is absolutely correct; that we are able to use the warnings on fics to pick and choose what we read is good, and that no one is making the choices for us is even better.
I am also glad you mentioned not being a fan of the incest genre, it means a lot for a person to support an opinion that they don't necessarily agree with.
Thanks for joining the discussion!
