Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien: Ressurection: An Extended Rant

Late last night I finally got around to seeing Alien: Resurrection, from the phenomenal 9-disk (NINE disks!!!) box DVD set my parents got me for Christmas. I already watched the special-edition Aliens (the second one, the James Cameron one), and that one is probably the best fodder for a weekend afternoon where you aren't doing much, and can just ( Read more... )

Well, well, well, well, it's good to see you're posting again.
I'm afraid I can't comment on your post because I've never actually seen an Aliens movie, though I've seen dozens of aliens.
I have seen Amelie. I enjoyed it but that was the sum of my involement. I did love the gnome's photos. I think they should make a sequel starring the gnome. He has charisma and sex appeal. Not to mention a pointy hat. Let's see Tom Cruise top that.

Screw Aliens vs. Predator. Why not Aliens vs. Amelie? The loser has to spend time with Winona Ryder.

i agree, the gnomes were the best part of the movie .. . and while i don't think it was as "fantastic" a movie as everyone thought (it was pretty much fluff except for Jeunet's usual dead-on commitment to the brute force of imagination), it probably is the most charming movie i've seen in years.

and i don't post much since you and ted are pretty much the only two people who read this, although i'm happy to have your two brains as a kind of dual shock-absorbing presence for my delicate musings. also i do most of my posting when i'm filled with coffee & killing time before class starts, and since the semester doesn't begin again until the 28th...

incidentaly, ihsan, did you ever get my email about how you don't need to submit a 5 minute film if you're applying to the MA (just the MFA)? and the deadline for applicants is Feburary 6th, mind you. You best get on it.

Yes, Amelie was definitely over-valued. It's suspicious how many of its fans are of the "I usually don't watch films with sub-titles" type.

Only me and Ted read the good reverend's work? What are all of your other friends up to, playing canasta?
Oh, and while I'm on an ah-sounds kick, did you swipe your pseudonym from Ambrose Bierce?

Yes, I did get your e-mail. I should have responded but now am even too apathetic to even be a persistent correspondent.
I'd like to go for an MFA. Entering a film department and not learning how to make movies is sort of like walking into the Playboy mansion and not rogering any of the bunnies.
