I should probably keep my mouth shut about the news that Amazon has purchased Marshall Cavendish's kids book until things become clearer. Whatever I say will annoy someone. But if I can broadcast my feeling about the loathsome snarkiness of Kirkus Reviews and be so audacious as to tell folks at the ALA that Best Books was broken and needed to be ( Read more... )

Hi, Rachel. Thanks for the comments. It helps to hear from people in all aspects of the book business, and the wholesaler perspective is definitely important.

oh it is the russian jew in me that wants to be loved? I thought it was my irish side, no that is my drinking side, maybe my german side- no let's not go there.

I think it is an awful way for the authors to get this news.
Seems to me, that the POLITE thing to do would have been for the publisher
to inform the authors at least before it hit the news. It makes the information more startling, and scary.

Yep. Same boat here. (MC release in 2013) I'm upset, but will let the chips fall. For years, I've admired MC books. When they accepted my ms, I was ridiculously happy. I was looking forward to seeing my book matched with the words Marshall Cavendish. I was looking forward to establishing a relationship with them that would lead to future titles. Now that won't happen, and I'm oddly grateful they didn't accept my option book.

It's definitely sad. I like your attitude about letting the chips fall. I'm not sure what my plan is, yet.
