Debbie Reese, who appears to make a profession out of getting offended, recently posted a blog attacking Jon Scieszka for having the kids in his Timewarp book, Oh Me Oh Maya, think of Mayan ruler Kakapupahed as Cacapoopoohead. Hah -- "Shitza" is a good one. I call him all sorts of things, but never thought of that one. You are absolutely right -- this is kid humor. There is nothing racist about it. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks, David. I tried to be reasonable in my answer to the piling on posts, too. I was particularly miffed about the tie to Asiana airlines. If someone thinks an author is privileged or racist, and Jon is called both, comment on it, write about it critically. But do not link it to the latest headline or some terrible event. Her last post has simply convinced me to,delete all future posts about this topic. I appreciate your point about humor which seems to be dismissed.

Thank you for the support. Your opinion matters to me. I know I will annoy some people by going after someone who is speaking for the minority. But nobody gets a free pass when it comes to honest evaluations and criticism. Her posts remind me of some of the tackier efforts of PETA.
