Oh, yes, our Government has done practically nothing to even discourage (much less prohibit) another collapse at least as bad as the previous one. Belt-tightening probably won't work, but I don't know quite what to suggest.
As Louis Bromfield wrote shortly before the 1929> Depression, -"Farmers can usually manage to eat reasonably well during Hard Times"- so it might be a good idea to buy, say, 40 acres and learn how to grow vegetables, & grain to feed chickens. And hope that you might sell enough chickens & eggs to pay your taxes.
Do you suppose someone's decided that inflicting another Depression on as many other people as possible is needed in order to get what they want from the marketplace?
I think Occam (and his razor) would argue that a combination of greed and arrogance are more likely causes than someone attempting to cause another Depression to get what they want.
Mind, I wouldn't totally rule it out - I just think it is much less likely.
