Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010

My version of office is saying I've 28 days to activate.  The shop can give me a new product key for a year's worth of use, but I kind of want a more permanent solution.  So I thought I'd ask for advice?

Is going to Open Office wise?
Buying Microsoft Office?
Paying the £30 a year?
Other?

Microsoft seem to be moving towards this subscription model...

...and I seem to want to move towards the open source model.
