Happy New YEAR!

Jan 01, 2007 02:14

Yeah I know, just a little late but it couldn't be avoided since I wasn't here at the house for the big event, all the same welcome to the two thousandth and seventh year of our Lord Jesus Christ!

May it see you well through your next 365 days of life!

actually, jesus is 2013 years old, they discovered he had been born 6 years prior, but by the time they found this out, the new dating system had been too far along :P

Well I wasn't saying that he was... just that it's the two thousand and seventh year of our lord, this implies ownership not age. To me his age is kinda irrelevant at this point.

The dating system was made to denote Jesus' age Hence the B.C. (before Christ) and A.C. (after Christ), to say its "ownership" makes no sense, otherwise why not continue using the Roman dating system that had been used for thousands of years before the birth of Christ?

I wasn't trying to be cocky with my first post, but I always like it when people share useless information with me (as long as it's interesting), so I never think it hurts to do the same for others.

It's actually A.D. not A.C. and it stands for Anno Domini which is greek for... *drum roll goes off somewhere in the depths of cyberspace* "In the Year of (our) Lord". The funny thing is that the BC/AD dating convention wasn't used till sometime in the dark ages if my memory serves. It was created by a monk or something and was based purely on his best guess as to when christ was born. All throughout the new testament the old roman dating system or possibly the jewish one, was in use though they don't say one way or the other for the most part. I suppose if you looked at the orignal documents that the books are based on you might find out for sure.

There's actually a new push to change that dating system to something called the Common Era system which is basically the same but strips out the christian specific relationship. If you wanna look further into it just google it, there's even a Wiki someone created on the topic. It's intresting stuff.
