ZetaMUCK

I had a brief stint as a ProtoMUCK developer during the last few years. ichijo_akari had given me commit access a long time ago so that I could modify scripts and improve documentation here and there, but after I stepped down from MotM I decided that I was interested in a little more than that ( Read more... )

Wow. I am really glad to hear this, man.

I'm sure you already know how I feel about Proto's state from our prior talks, so this makes me quite optimistic about the future of Coolness. It's in excellent hands.

(And the name's just fine. Coming from Pueblo to Neon to Proto to Zeta, it's not exactly a disgrace to the lineage or anything. ;) )

Ha. Yeah, I can't say that I didn't bring my own problems to ProtoMUCK (new coders are going to make dumb mistakes now and then), but there was definitely some oddness in the background. That said, Hinoserm is a smart guy and I like some of the things he added under the hood that most people don't know about.

I've improved quite a bit since I first started working with the code, and have progressed far enough to where I can look at my older style and wonder WTF I was smoking. (a necessary stage in growth)

Also, it turns out I documented pinned arrays better than I remembered. I've added those to the change list and you'll want to take a peek at those.

I doubt you'll approve as they're a fundamentally brain damaged concept, but they're useful in cases where you're working with extremely large data sets and it makes sense to forego the normal array decoupling behavior for performance reasons.

(yeah, this comment makes absolutely zero sense until you've read what I added)

I've mostly been focusing on documenting missing or wrong things. It's still in need of a reworked MUF tutorial that has been updated to explain array based programming.

That said, I give a crap about documentation and don't mind answering questions, so it doesn't hurt to have people playing with it and pointing out areas that are lacking.

Oh wonderful, well hey I might have to talk with you later about poking at it if that'll really be helpful!
