and now for something pretty much unexpected...

Ok, so most of you know that I'm not really a big sports person.  I wasn't athletic growing up and never really got the hang of team sports (unless lazer tag counts, and I'm not even all that GOOD at it (though I have fun)).  I didn't even attempt to get semi-regular exercise until after I'd turned 21.  Actually, it was breaking my arm that kicked ( Read more... )

procrastination, sports, randomness

Actually, they are, "The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim." I'm pretty glad they're not playing the Yankees in the ALDS, frankly, but the Angels vs. Red Sox series should be good.

It's been kind of fun to be a baseball fan in New York this week, what with the Mets sudden collapse at the end of the season there.

They brought in that asinine (sp?!?) name change just after New Year's 2005 (that is, the very start of 2005). Their name prior to that had been the Anaheim Angels, under-which they had won the World Series, I might add.

I think the current official name is far too stupid to deserve mention and thus will continue to refer to them as the "Anaheim Angels" regardless.

Oh my! I hadn't even noticed the collapse of the Mets. Jess must be a wee bit disappointed then. Ahh well, you have your near-blind devotion to the Yankees, and I have my near-blind devotion to the Golden State.

May the best team win!

And, with severe apologies to all my Boston-fan friends from UMass, for once, I want the Red Sox to lose. Mind you, I'd also like the Yankees to lose, but since the Red Sox are playing Anaheim, I just have to go for the Angels. You understand, don't you?

Want to know how much I know about sports?

There, do you see that dot? No? That's because it's smaller than a pixel. That's my experience with sports right there. I don't actually have any objection to sports (I love running around and throwing/kicking things at people), just because I wasn't raised with them and have been to two games. Two. I went to a baseball game in junior high with my church youth group, which I didn't enjoy because I was essentially just sitting by myself watching. And then I went to a couple of pieces of Olaf football games that may add up to a whole game. Those were more fun, because of the people and because it was fun to rile up the guys by asking cute questions like, "Football is the one with the black and white ball, right?" and then watching their faces. ;)

In high school, I averaged about one Baltimore Orioles game per summer with my family, and we'd usually bring friends along with us. So it was more like a few friends sitting in the stands, eating ballpark food, and occasionally paying attention to what was happening on the field.

I went to every home football game in high school and at UMass, 'cause I was in the marching band. Those players' cleet really mess up our performance space. I paid less attention to the football games, in truth, than I usually did to my annual baseball game. Still, it was a good atmosphere.

I'd like to see anybody who thinks marching band isn't physically taxing try to do it. yeah yeah, I know I only did it for a year, but I think that's what caused me to *lose* the freshman 15 instead of gaining it. *nods*.

And I know you're blindly loyal to CA but I'm going to have to agree to disagree. I pay about as much attention to sports as you describe yourself in this entry, but the A's are playing the Red Sox. *Pulls on her invisible Sox cap*. May the best team win. :p

Actually, NO, the "A's" aren't playing the Red Sox. Referring to the "A's" actually means that you're talking about the Oakland Athletics, a team that severely predates the Angels. Yes, their logos both involve giant letters A, but you're actually referring to a quite different team (that didn't do particularly well this year, I might add: under a 0.500 win average).

As I said, my sports knowledge is minimal. :p. Thank you for correcting me. :) I knew the Sox were playing some team with an A. Guess, I should do the research better, and to think that I'm a librarian!
