Chuck Palahniuk got the idea for Fight Club after noticing the same thing. He had been camping and gotten into a fist fight with some people in a neighboring campsite. When he came to work the next day, his face was all swollen and bruised and everyone was on autopilot when interacting with him.

"Other than the underlying theme, there truly is no difference in lifestyle culture than in any other culture on Earth. It accomplishes the same goals of providing a safe, comforting, and acceptable way for people to interact with each other."

I kinda noticed this to... because people talk about the politics and the back-biting and the bickering and such... like it's such a problem in the lifestyle. But it's the same in any group of people or "culture"... church groups, vampire lifestylers, Star-Trak fan clubs (I would assume sports fans, nascar fans, hunting lodges are the same to, though i don't have personal knowledge of them)... they're all the same basic things... just the costumes are different and they're catered to the common likes of the people in the groups. When you think about it that way, it's easy to be more accepting and understanding of other groups you might not normally "get" like gun clubs.
