The Chron posted a map of the Bay Area fires. All the smoke is giving a golden hue to the air that is hella otherworldly. Beautiful, but wrong and disturbing to deep parts of my brain.
Yesterday it smelled like smoke in the morning and the evening sunset was blood red. In a way I have never seen (but most resembled an LA sunrise I saw after an allnighter).
The other thing about fire smoke is that it seems to change the ambient noise level; it seems to dampen how far sound travels, like fog. So you get the weird lighting properties, the dry static electricity wildness, and dampened sound.
None of the fires are near us (certainly not as near as the last round of fires were to you). I'm mostly worried about the ecologies getting devastated out there. Silly humans, we change the climate, stop natural burning and build our homes out among heaps and stacks of burnables. Then we get surprised when it burns. Okay, more like stupid than silly.
It does seem really unreal out there. Like it's another planet, a poorly terraformed one.
