Thanks! Was their a specific incident that brought me to mind, or did I just pop into your thoughts unannounced? ;) In any case, I have been long overdue to say that I've been following "Innerspace" religiously since its inception. The characters and situations you set up really drew me in right away. I can't wait to see how the story continues to develope! :)
Oh I was just thinking about your giant paintings and how awesome they are, and then I thought 'hey she hasn't updated in a while!' And then I poked around your site and looked at your giant paintings, because, well, they're awesome! ;)
Ohh my comic's story will develop. Eventually. I promise!
Various subtleties in this painting brought back memories of Corduroy. I'm sure that's not the expected or intended response from the imagery, but I just had to share because its so weird. :} If you haven't read the book (or perhaps if it has been a while since reading it), the story goes that Corduroy is a toy bear in a department store. He wears green overalls, but with one button missing for one of the overall straps... So one night he goes out to search for the missing button and ends up in the store's bed/mattress department
( ... )
Corduroy! I do remember that story from childhood. Not least of which was due to my name being an element ;) What a curious connection. I wonder if he could have been hinding in my subconcious?
Was this inspired by a real location, or is it from your imagination (or perhaps a combination)?
It is a combination. There are elements of different local malls, as well as items from those locations. But this painting in particular contains a lot of information I have created or reimagined.
As for your cookie incident. I happened to make cookies for V-day for my fellow graduates (and a particular valentine of mine). They were cut-out sugarcookies. It wasn't until I got to the cutting part that I realized I couldn't find any heart-shaped cookie cutters in our massive collection (my mom's). So I improvised and bent a circle cutter into a heart. I liked the imperfect hand-quality shape it created better than the machine perfection.
Hunh! That's kind of opposite of the way I've been going, for a long time. That is, for a long time, I did thumbnail sketches to help me figure out perspective, so I wouldn't have to slave over rulers--I could just flip out quick lines and correct it quickly.
Hmm! But maybe I am stalled out because I'm ready to move on to a new technique...!
I can't wait to see this painting in person...and look at it head on. It's funny, I am so used to looking at your realistic paintings that I could swear that the second item is actually a painting, and not a picture. It's cute either way!
