In case it wasn't already apparent to you, I'm the type that has an eye to the sky whenever it is within view.
Today I had a sighting of a horseshoe vortex! They are supposedly rare so I feel fortunate for spotting one.

I was unfortunate in that I was driving down the highway when it caught my eye, so my photographs are very poor (you shouldn't ( Read more... )

I just wish it was a little better photo and I would submit it to one of those places.

BTW that is one of my favorite websites related to this interest ;)

I've always been interested in clouds and weather, so I love stuff like this. I haven't heard of a horseshoe vortex before ... neat!

Did you know what it was at the time or did you look into it later? I'm not sure that I would have noticed it.

Since I love to browse usually weather/sky photographs I had seen these before--but I didn't know what they were called. In fact I specifically remember trying to find out their name once and gave up after a fruitless search.

When I saw this on above me on the highway I instantly recognized that it was one of those things that I had been trying to find the name of, so I shot photos of it. --Believe me, in person it looked a lot "bigger" and noticeable, I just didn't get good photos. But I do concede that I had an eye for that shape, having seen it before.

I then went home and did a more thorough search on finding the name. And found more info on them.

Yay for the internet!

BTW it was good to see you over the Holidays.
