The notes instantly ground me as home. I love birdsong, and this particular song always lifts my spirits. In the colder months it is heard less often, and it warmed the January air when I had a treat of hearing it on my Birthday this year. Another great song. For me it sounds less like spring and more like "the country"--since they winter here as well, and are more prevalent outside the city.

It's amazing how simple sounds really connect us to time and place.

Interesting... the Black-Caps here say "Fee-bee-bee". I don't know what our Mountain Chickadees sing, because I've only ever heard their "Chicka-DEE-DEE-DEE" type song. They sound much harsher than the Black-Caps.

Red-winged blackbirds are already back here. The Yellow-heads will soon follow.
