Snow falling? Does that make a sound? I've always thought that, rather than having a sound of it's own, it seems to deaden other sounds.

My favourites are , in no particular order: waves breaking; the sound of a steam engine passing as it pulls a train; logs burning; bacon frying; a woman moaning in sexual ecstasy.

I think I like the change of sound that snow-fall creates--the deadening. But there is also the sound of wet snow, and the sound of dry snow drifting in the wind. It sounds sort of like sand.

Bacon frying. Now there is a sound! Pork is forbidden in Islam--a world I'm currently living in so there is double pleasure in pondering that. Thank you for your list! :)

I agree with the dry leaves in particular. I love sounds that are particular to times of the year (like the spring frogs and the summer cicadas). When there is enough time lapse between the repetition of a sound it allows for a feeling of nostalgia. Or simply remembrance.
