You probably meant that somewhat jokingly, but there's a lot of truth to that. If you think you're really, really smart, you might get cocky and forget that you can make mistakes. This is extra-bad if you're a doctor. If you've been taught that you're going to do stupid things and fuck up a lot, regardless of how smart you are, you're a lot more likely to think "Wait, am I sure this guy needs to have his hand amputated? Is it possible that he just wears his wristwatch too tight?" rather than just blindly firing up the bonesaw.
