A MESSAGE TO ALL LJ USERS!
Heard of a community called
iconscraper It's a community that is using LJ's "Recent Pictures Feed" to randomly grab icons, pics and small graphics posted *anywhere* on LJ (at any given time) and post them as icon posts for people to snag. AND it's hotlinking every single picture it's posting. Like 200+ pictures per post all hotlinked from various places on LJ. There are thousands of icons and even what looks to be personal pictures being hotlinked from LJ posts and posted in the
iconscraper community. It's been reported to LJ by some people already, however there is strength in numbers.
TO PREVENT YOUR IMAGES BEING HOTLINKED:
GO HERE: http://www.livejournal.com/admin/console/
TYPE: set latest_optout yes
To opt out a community you are maintainers of: set "for" insertcommunityname latest_optout yes
This will prevent your images from being included in the feed. ^_^ *NOTE* - Entries that are private or "friends only" are already excluded from the feed.
I've only made 2 icon batches and have had 3 icons taken, so I thought this would be important for you all to read and protect your bandwidth and icons! i'm x-posting this to all the bleach graphic communities I belong to so sorry if this appears more than once on your friends page!
EDIT: seems like this community has been suspended, but this information can still be valuable if you would like to prevent your images you post from being put into the feed
