Not dead, merely self-absorbed. If I appear to be somewhat sluggish and non-responsive, it would be because I'm deep in my cyclical Personal Project Mode, usually researching (BTW, I recommend "The Folklore of Fairy Tales" by Maclead Yearsley for anyone interested in that kind of thing). I enjoy being this jazzed about something. The only drawback ( Read more... )

I really enjoyed FF12. The plot is in keeping with the other game that takes place in Ivalice, FF Tactics, in that it's more of a fantasy political thriller than fantasy hero A vs. nihilistic fantasy villain B plot. I found it to be a nice change of pace.

And yes, the kill chaining mechanic is rather engaging.

I'm also rather absorbed in FFXII, mostly because it reminds me of FFXII and how fun that was. I love chaining monsters, I love it when you chain so many that you get extra loot! Gambits are cool, too, mostly because you get to futz with them when you eventually get them, and finding that right balance of actions versus monsters is pretty fun!

I definitely prefer Balthier to Vaan and wish that he were my protagonist. Where I'm at (Level 19), I have Balthier and Fran as Vaan's support in that party and my other party consists of the final 3 members you get with the striker/swordsman as the leader, and I'm leveling all six equally so that if--or more accurately, when--I die against a boss, I can switch in the other party members without a loss of experience and/or abilities.

Still getting used to Licenses, though...

Speaking of FFXI, after entirely too long I'm approaching my 2nd level 75 job. My character's Thief job is now level 72. I'm looking forward to making with the stabby vs. Maat. If you're breaking the level 70 cap on Thief, you can beat Maat by successfully stealing an Instant Warp scroll from him. If you've already broken the level 70 cap, you have to win the old-fashioned way: the old ultra-violence. :)
