No wonder people cheat.

I recently opened a DeviantArt account. This gave rise to the need for an artistic avatar. Ordinarily, I use a picture of myself with green mud on my face and curlers in my hair. This time, I just snapped a picture of mine own self with Photobooth, and used the charcoal pencil tools in Painter to draw ‘over’ the photo on a transparent layer. I ( Read more... )

On it's own as a work of art, the 'charcoal' drawing looks good but...........

Um, I think you have added about 20 years to the perfectly pleasant face in your photo by emphasizing the shadows and broadening the nose. And you gave yourself grandma hair too! Is that the image you want to convey?

but Beth... I *do* have grandma hair! :D You're right, though.. I did get the nose all wrong. Facial shadows... *shrug* It's real hard to indicate any contour without shadows. Especially if you aren't using color. I like the drawing better than the photograph, myself, even if the nose is all wonky. As a representation of myself, I'm happier with it than with something that would make me 'pretty'. Fuck 'pretty'. I'm 'POWERFUL'. =D

You know, people got along without doctors and cars and,for that matter, paintbrushes too. Even though it's tracing, and even though it feels like a shortcut, what you did is still masterful and beyond the ability of the majority of people even if they had the same equipment. That computer is fucking dumb and only can do what it is told. you still see what you need and tell it what to do. So it's a nuclear powered pencil, it's still a pencil and you're still the artist but now you stand on the sholders of giants...ok, somebody stop me before I have a

Hi Dawn, I'm old school too. But besides all of this talk about tracing or not- I think you have a face which shows a person with a lot of depth. I'd always wondered what you actually looked like. Thank you for sharing this and I hope you stay open. I like people like that. I don't mean open and mouthy but open in spirit. Which is what is showing here.

By the way I like granma hair. My hait is becoming that way and I am looking forward to it. People who keep their own hair color look to me like people who are open and true to themselves and also to others. I've been scolded for this opinion, but I just feel comfortable with people who totally accept their own beauty.

In my town everyone colors their hair and I have been getting frustrated at not having any uncolored hair around on people to admire. I love hair. Colored hair just doesn't have the luster and life to it.

I'm sorry, I know I am outdated here and way out of style. But lately people have been complimenting me on my hair A LOT. And I am way out of style because I do not color my hair. It's strange.

I like gramma hair, too. I'm a gramma, it's fitting. :D Be proud of those natural hairs. They're uniquely yours, and self-respect is *always* in style.

I still like this and, if you're doing any kind of production work where product is key and process is only faster=better, tracing like this is the way to go.

What's your devart? I'll stalk you there too.
