You're not a treehugger. You just have an uncommon amount of common sense. You are not blind to the world around you (and it's practices). Not only do most people not know these things you're writing about, they don't WANT to know. Most people turn a blind eye & their ignorance is bliss.

So kudos to you for not backing down from reality.

(You're right about the pricing though. I wish I could afford to be more organic and environmentally conscious. I do what I can, in as many ways as I can. But poor people and really, most 'regular' people, have to eat shit.

I've heard it said that "environmentalism is a perogative of the rich" and in many ways, that's true. If you're worried too much about making ends meet and just *having* some kind of food, you're not as concerned about where it comes from or sadly, what kind of trash it creates.

But that's a whole other rant. And I'm not laughing at you =D)

Stephanie, you're dead right. Most people don't want to know. Ever since I read Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle" hundreds of years ago, I realized large and profitable corporations do not have an individual's best interests in mind when they are producing and selling product. Lately, it's just become more and more apparent that we're being slaughtered, slowly, for profit. Sure, a food producer will argue, there's a teensy little bit of poison stuff in this food we make, but so what? It isn't nearly enough to ever ever kill you in a million zillion years ( ... )

I recently changed my own dog and cat foods, went with the Blue Buffalo brands....my dogs really like the fish/sweet potato dry food, and I like the ingredients. I've also been mixing in Wellness canned, they make an all turkey meat formula, just meat no grain, it's good as a mix-in, and also the Wellness turkey/sweet potato canned. They seem to be doing well on it.

BTW, how's Mr. Wigglebutt doing these days??

He had another cluster of seizures recently, and we had to up his phenobarb dosage. Fortunately, the seizures lasted half as long, weren't as bad, and he never lost bladder control... but it was still heart-wrenching ( ... )

http://www.naturapet.com/
i'm glad we have options for when the babies get sick of eating the same thing every day *wink
as far as msg - i hate that crap! i look on labels for it - there's also something equivalent to msg - i just learned about it: http://fitsugar.com/286995

DUDE! Natura makes *the* best dog food... we just can't get it around here very easily. I fed that to my dog Bear, and he THRIVED on it. You have never seen such a glossy, beautiful animal. You are so doing the best thing! We gave Bear the Innova food --do your animals like the Evo product line?

By the way, because of the way dry food is processed, it's common for dogs to develop allergic reactions to a food they eat for a long period of time, no matter what food it is. It's a GOOD thing to vary their diets, and switch foods occasionally. I'm glad we've got options, too.

Thanks very much for that MSG link. I knew about hydrolyzed vegetable proteins, but wasn't aware of the other aliases. That stuff is sheer poison, plain and simple. Any amount of it can affect you, if you've developed a sensitivity to it. Now I've got a ton of other reasons to read labels fanatically. =P

oh dawn - they all love Evo! and i'm so happy! this stuff is so expensive though - but it's worth it. man, i hope Bragi feels better soon! poor sweety.

you know, with all the crap that's in food it's no
wonder people are getting heavier. not just being sedentary but it's the crap they eat (and drink).
sometimes (when on location) i fuck up but i really try to watch what i eat...i wish i didn't go through "phases". you know, eating really well for a couple weeks and then...blah. i've gotta stop that - lol!

did you get your mini yet? if not, when? hehe please post a photo!

My MINI is all built, and is currently at a dock somewhere in England, 'awaiting transport'. She sends me letters occasionally, to let me know how she's doing. =P (MINI has great customer relations.)

We're very excited here, and anxiously awaiting her arrival. The MINI deal here is excited, as well, since she's the poshest little Cooper S to hit that dealer thus far. Okay, maybe they're just excited because I'm about to hand them a cashier's check for buhzillions of dollars. ;-)

Being concerned about your health and what you are consuming is a great thing! I've recently started making steps towards eating better unprocessed, organic foods when I can. I really feel so much better when I am able to stick to it. I just wish my son wasn't such a picky eater or it would be a lot easier!

I bet he'd love the snot out of Granny Dawn's home-made vanilla yogurt and home-made cranberry granola. ;-) I'll be testing it on my own granddaughter soon. Once she hits solid food, I'm going to corrupt her tastebuds completely. Sushi, yogurt, olives, fresh basil... and occasionally oatmeal with a touch o' honey drizzled on it. =D

Hey Dawn! It is great to see you. I think you are spot on, with everything you wrote. I am a tree hugger of sorts (but I secretly use bleach products because of my germophobia).

I am "allergic" or something to MSG, as it can make me anything from sick to full blown migraine. Stuff sucks.

As for milk and dairy - check out your local farm delivery service. You know, the milk man. Chances are good, they don't use hormones, etc. I have one, in Metro Boston.

HAHAH!! I've developed a bit of germophobia myself, lately --but there are ways around it aside from bleach. There are non-chlorine bleaches that use a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution that will disinfect your laundry to some extent --and I've heard that it's possible to get a 5% solution, which is much more effective, and, I believe, used in some hospitals. I am a bit phobic about disinfecting laundry, and towels in particular. I've read that the best disinfectant/bleaching agent for your laundry is the sun --this may be true, but I see sunlight maybe 50 days a year, here... and I do laundry about 300 days a year. I really think those numbers need to be swapped. =D ( ... )
