i was out of town over thanksgiving. i left three messages for my mom (two on Thursday and one on Friday) who happened not to be home at any of the times i tried leaving messages. she finally called back on Friday afternoon while they were getting ready to go to another gathering. we talked about what she was making, what she was bringing, the ( Read more... )

I guess her memory's getting so bad she can't remember not being able to remember. :)

i'm undecided. on one hand, she never had a good memory about stuff.

... but on the other...

i don't know when i should become concerned that it is more than just her normal scattered memory. and yes, the things that other folks are dealing with did cross my mind. :(

I wouldn't worry too much. Be concerned if it happens again...and she hasn't been drinking. Sometimes in the blur of the holidays with so much going on, you forget what is going on. Honestly...if I have a lot going on, I forget things. *hugs* I am sure if this becomes something "regular" then you need to worry or starts to happen on a more regular basis.

The older people get, the worse their short term memory is. That's just life and what people chalk(ed) up to "old age." We knew there was an issue with my Mom when she repeated the same thing she said only 10 minutes ago. And did so repeatedly.

Keep a keen eye/ear. *hugs*

that's the other thing. she always repeats herself and her stories... she always has!!

i will say, you said that already. and she will plow along with the story. a month from now when i talk to her again, she will probably tell me again because she forgot that she told me before. i don't talk to her that often... so things that are interesting stick out in her mind and she wants to tell me about it. so she does.

maybe i should call more and see if it happens more often or less often. :/

On the one hand, M already tells me things we've done that I have ZERO memory of. On the other, my mother's memory is definitely getting less reliable and it is an awful, awful feeling to think about her getting old. Hugs to you.
