Game of Thrones: S7 Finale...

THIS FINALE!!!! YES, YES, YES, YES!

This season has been a polarizing one as some fans have felt that the writing wasn’t up to par as in the past seasons

Even Adult Swim got their jabs in

(I agree with that feeling, but I still found this season great) or that it was too rushed and the travel time for characters was lazy and illogical . Even with the knowledge that these plots was rushed due to the time constraints of a shortened season time travel seemed to be a bridge too far for many viewers.

I was just too thrilled to get a season of reunions and meeting of characters who have never shared scenes together.

Like the Westerosi Suicide Squad

With these two silky voiced sexpots Beric Dondarrion and Jorah “My amore-ah” Mormont.

Or the parlay crew

All the pieces are officially on the board. In the finals of the “Game of Thrones Playoffs” are:

Team Dragonstone

Team Beyond The Wall

Team The North

Team Kings Landing

~I tried to avoid spoilers as much as I could but before the season began someone leaked plots on reddit and so many people posted them Twitter so I knew about the Jon and Dany hookup, or as it’s been called on reddit for months now #EpicBoatSex

Should call it Hobbit sex. Two small people going at it

and Arya would kill Littlefinger.

The only thing that they got wrong was that the leak-er said that Cersei would miscarry, that she would be seen bleeding but they obviously mixed that up with the Lyanna Stark flashback.

The Lyanna Stark flashback is a great starting point. I’m not a “Game of Thrones” book reader-just someone who hardcore nerded out on reading up about the pre-show history and my favorite elements of the book are the Tourney at Harrenhal and the secret of Lyanna and Rhaegar Targaryen’s relationship. Seeing Rhaegar and Lyanna was so wonderful.

…even if I have to ignore that their reckless action caused the deaths of their families and thousands of others who fought in Robert’s Rebellion.

Other than proving Jon’s legitimacy I think the significance of him being proven a Targaryen isn’t so much so that he can rule the throne-he doesn’t even want the throne---it’s so that they could finally solve the Three Headed Dragon theory. All this time I’ve thought the third “head” would be an established character like Tyrion or Bran, but now I think Dany and Jon will have a child and that would be the third head. Dany thinks she can’t have can’t have children because of what the witch told her, but Dany and her magical non-burning self coupled with Jon’s magic resurrection self are surely able to make a baby with really great hair like its mopey daddy. Daddy-Cousin?

Poor dead Ned watching his nephew have sex with his aunt

What I Didn’t Love This Season
*This heaux winning all the time!

He was insufferable alone now he has an ICE DRAGON???? And Viserion would be the dragon that was turned, named after that nasty piece of work Viserys. Damn, why even bother at this point. I’d go to Dorne.

But because of how it was set up I’m inclined to think that Bran was seeing the future, not that it was actually going down at the Wall right then it there. But maybe he was just seeing it in real time…not sending any ravens to Team Dragonstone to let them know or anything that could be useful.

*Jaime being punked by Cersei. Lady Olenna tried to warn him: Cersei would be his ruin. He didn’t listen. Now he’s been exiled by a woman he has loved nearly all of his life. Of course the Brienne/Jaime shipper in me is thrilled by this turn of events.

What I Loved This Season
The emotional stakes were high. Ellaria Sand was wrong for killing Myrcella. She let her rage and grief make her do something reckless, even more reckless it was against Cersei! The scene where Ellaria wordlessly reacts to her daughter being poisoned was excruciating. Great performance by Indira Varna.

Same for the Tyrion/Cersei scene. The two of them hate each other, but under that hate there is a love that is borne of being Tywin’s children. Not even in a genetic sense but in how they were raised by and viewed by Tywin (Cersei for being female and Tyrion for being a little person) informs how they feel about themselves. We got a sense of that bond when Tyrion tries to comfort Cersei over Joffrey’s instability.

Theon Greyjoy. He has had so many ups and downs and have tried and failed and tried and failed some more at being heroic that I think this time it will take

He will save Yara….just in time for him to die a heroic death. But he will die a hero!

*My favorite moment in this finale was the scene between Jon and Theon. It’s fitting that so close to the end they would have his reconciliation. I think Theon has always been combative with Jon because he resented that Jon, while not fully a Stark, was more accepted in the family than he was. Even though Jon really didn’t feel completely accepted into the family as evidenced by his turning down the direwolf because he said he wasn’t a Stark and by him not being able to sit with the family when Robert arrived. Telling Theon that he was both Greyjoy and Stark and that it was okay was the best gift anyone can give to him.

Only cringey moment was Theon getting kneed in the crotch repeatedly. I get that it’s to show that the one thing he felt shame over and wounded by was the one thing that couldn’t be used to take him down, but it was still cheesy.

What I Love and Hate
That the shadow of Ned still looms so large and so strong seven seasons in is a wonderful thing. Less wonderful is that everyone holds him up as the epitome of honor and loyalty for their own purposes and it was that honor that led to his death. All of those people who respected him for his code didn't intervene. So I need for Cersei, Varys and others of her ilk to keep Ned's name out their mouths.
