The Oscars That Was...

Mar 05, 2018 01:06

Another awards season over and out. Some big upsets. Meaning, upsets to me because I got them wrong on my Oscars ballot for an Oscars pool. DAMMIT!

Who were the (fashion) winners and losers?

Loved
Zendaya
*This chocolate chiffon Grecian style dress is perfection.

I even forgive her for dressing like Darkwing Duck during fashion week

Paris Jackson
**I love her IDC IDC IDC so whatever she wears is fine by me.

Lisa Bonet and Zoe Kravitz
**Love Lisa’s dress. I’ll give Zoe points for being uniquely her.

TV maven Shonda Rhimes

Ava DuVernay
**Always a fashion winner.

I mean, look at this beautiful dress! I love dark colors but olive green provides a jolt of color on the dark end of the spectrum and I love the hi-low design

Miley Cyrus
**There is a thing as too red. Other than that she looks beautiful.

Eva Marie Saint
**I honestly love this dress. It’s still a bit of flirty even though she’s covered like a nun

Blanca Blanco (with John Savage)
*She was scarlet letter’ed at the Golden Globes for her dress but like then, she don’t care. Mama’s showing off all her goods!

She’s going to wear a black version of this to Savage’s funeral, bet.

Fatma Al Remihi
** I don’t know who she is but she’s serving Liza Minnelli at Club 54 so I have to respect her.

Sofia Vergara

Amy Adams showing us what she’s working with

Not!Amy Adams, Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen

Kelly Ripa in Christian Sirano
**I love the splashes of color. Too bad it looks so rumpled in the back.

Leslie Mann and Judd Apatow

Emma Stone in Louis Vuitton

Andra Day
**I can’t pinpoint why I like this Holly Hobbit look but I do.

Gabrielle Union

Beanie Feldstein
**The smokey eyes completes the look.

Tiffany Haddish
**One, she looks like a queen. Two, the thought behind the outfit. It’s a traditional Eritrean dress and she wore it to honor her late father who was Eritrean.

**When she presented she wore a dress familiar to SNL viewers. She wore it during her monologue when she hosted and explained that it was a four thousand dollar dress she bought for the “Girls Trip” premiere and vowed that she would wear it everywhere to get her money worth.

Angela Bassett (at the Vanity Fair party)
**I always love a nice pants ensemble. And this Neopolitan look is playful and cute.

Janelle Monae in Christian Sirano
**This is glorious! It’s unique and uniquely her. I am in love.

Emily Blunt in Schiaperelli
**She does romantic wear so well.

Lupita N’yongo in Versace with “Black Panther” costars Winston Duke and Danai Gurira (in Gabriela Hearst)
**It’s impossible for Lupita to look bad.

Nicole Kidman in Armani Prive
**Love the structure. The hair is a bit too plain. Maybe curls would have been a better fit.

Laura Dern

Diane Warren
**Looking like Suzi Quatro for the 30th year running.

Being a bad example for Dame Helen

Anjelica Huston and James Jagger
**I know they’re not dating (James is still married as far as I know) but it would be funny if they were. Unlike his father Mick James would date older instead of younger.

Danny and Jack

**Why do the Hustons keep getting invited to Osca parties???

Padma Lakshmi

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior
**Sleek and exquisite. I love her beach waves.

Though I loved her BAFTA dress more

JLaw incurred the wrath of Timothee Chalamet fans when she said in an interview how attracted she is to him and that she will probably wait until he’s older to pounce on him. Stop crotch-blocking this dude, fans! If Timothee’s family wasn’t with them JLaw would be tearing after him.

The Gents
Adam Rippon
**I always say go big or go home and ice-skater Adam Rippon went big ZADDY. Look at this leather dom!

James Marsden
**A little too casual for my taste but he’s still one of the most handsome dudes there.

Sebastian Stan

Andy Serkis

Singer Miguel
*Miguel joined with Gael Garcia Bernal and Natalie Fourcade, for the “Coco” song, Remember Me

So Seth Green has just given up on looking decent?

Dan Stevens and wife

Mahershala Ali
**I have aversions to all the way buttoned up shirts sans ties. It looks wrong. But I love the blue trim of his shirt.

The Taylor-Johnsons: Sam and Aaron

Rupaul, you better werk!

Reggie Watts
**I have to give him points because if I liked Timothee Chalamet’s gas station attendant look at the Spirit Awards

then I have to like Reggie’s mechanic look.

Tom Holland
**I hate this tux jacket!! Maybe he’s too short to pull off this double breasted look. He looks like a maitre’d.

His Vanity Fair look was better

**Tom walked the carpet alone despite obviously dating Zendaya. People tried to dismiss it after they spent Thanksgiving together last year, but she was recently in London hanging out with his mother and brothers. Tom is presenting and Zendaya introduced the Best Song nominee from her film “The Greatest Showman”, This is Me

Marlon Wayans

Daniel Kaluuya
*Love the champagne jacket.

James Ivory in a Elio Perlman/Timothee Chalamet shirt
**Ivory said he will give the shirt to Timothee.

Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino

Jordan Peele and Chelsea Peretti

The reanimated corpse of Jim Morrison

Armie Hammer in Armani, Timothee Chalamet in Berluti

People with their rude jokes!

Timothee, his mother Nicole Felder, Elizabeth Chambers and Armie

Timothee, his sister, parents and Luca at the Sony Pictures Classics party last night

**Armie couldn’t attend the party because he and his kids were felled with a stomach bug.

Timothee Facetimed with him during the show

He missed out on this custom bottle of booze

But he rallied with the help of fluids

and their dog Archie

**Before there was Armie there was Matthew McConaughey.

Tim-o-tay played the young version of McConaughey’s son in “Interstellar”. The two have kept in touch since then. McConaghey interviewed Timothee for VMan last year and Timothee often recounts how he has kept the voicemail McConaghey left him when he (briefly) started going to college.

Tim-o-tay and Daniel Kaluuya
**The two became friends after being paired together for the Hollywood Reporter one-on-ones and then due to being amongst the youngest at these events they bonded. When beat out Timothee for the BAFTA Rising Star he stopped at his seat to give him a dab before going onstage.

Somehow Timothee managed to become awards season’s boyfriend.

I personally think Tim-o-tay looks like that mouse in “Cinderella”

but if Armie loves him, than I have to love him.

~Okay, this is really the end of the Timothee and Armie train. Okay, almost. Timothee said that the Hammers invited him to the Cayman Islands (where Armie grew up), but after that? After that, it’s all over.

No more behind the scenes moments

No more cape-ing for each other

So we shall bask in the memories like Timothee in Crema listening to “Lady, Lady, Lady” reminiscing of shooting that scene.

It’s also the end of Armie and Luca

~But that’s okay because the Black Delegation has chosen Armie in the racial draft. We traded corny Taye Diggs for him.

Welcome to the fam, Armand

He presented his, “Sorry to Disturb You” costar Omari Hardwick with an award

He’s even Instagram friends with “Insecure”s Jay Ellis
**Armie, we got you. You’re invited to the cookout.

We accept you, kinky likes and all

~Fans were hoping that Armie starring in the play “Straight White Male”

in NYC would mean more Armie and Timothee time, but Timothee will be in London filming “Henry V” for Netflix at the same time.

Maybe Timothee can replace Armie with Sam Rockwell

Director Martin McDonagh
**He looks really stylish despite how basic this all is. Great fit, he wears it well. It’s a red carpet win even though he didn’t win an Oscar for “Three Billboards…”

Dylan McDermott and fiancée Maggie Q

LaKeith Stanfield in a sustainable suit by Zegna
*The outfit is sponsored by actress Suzy Amis Cameron’s (honestly, I think she quit acting after she married James Cameron)organization Red Carpet Green Dress initiative.

Hated
Singer St. Vincent
*On hand to perform with Sufjan Stevens she wore this…THIS. This makes less sense than Bjork’s swan dress.

Zoey Deschanel
**She looks like someone whose kid just called her at 1am to come pick them up from a sleepover.

Emma Watson
**Her hair killed the look. It probably killed the looks of people around her too that’s how terrible her hair is. It spread like a virus.

Michelle Rodriguez

Lindsay Vonn in Christian Sirano
**Tacky. And the dress is terrible too.

Haley Bennett (“Thank You For Your Service”)
**She has the nerves to be defiant in the face of this ugly dress. It’s like her cheerleading team pranked her by wrapping her up in Astroturf.

Maya Rudolph
**she and Tiffany Haddish were incredible during their banter but this shapeless dress is a mess. Is she pregnant again? That is the only reason I can see for wearing this tent-that-covers-your-house-as-it’s-sprayed-for-termites look.

Adam Rippon in Moschino

**HOWEVER! I don’t like the tails. A straight up jacket would’ve worked.

Michael Stuhlbarg

Everything Else
Wendi McCloven-Covey

Kate Bosworth and Michael Polish

Laurie Metcalf in Christian Sirano

Elisabeth Moss
**Is there an actual person standing there? She’s so whited out I can’t see.

Paz Vega in Christopher Bu

Samara Weaving
**I think her eye makeup is a bit too garish even though the palette matches the dress. But I adore the look and I just love her.

Mary J. Blige in Versace

I wish she would’ve gone old glam like this

**A friend went to Mary J’s Star on the Walk of Fame ceremony.
She said Mary couldn’t stop crying out of gratitude

Jennifer Garner

Olivia Munn (at the Vanity Fair party)

Greta Gerwig in Rodarte
**She looks like Old Hollywood Glamour

Emily Gordon and Kumail Nanjiani

I much prefer her Vanity Fair dress

Director Dee Rees (with wife Sarah Bloom)
**At first I wasn’t feeling Dee’s look but when I took it all end I actually like it. I would like it better if she had a different jacket.

Ashley Judd (in Badgley Mishka) and Mira Sorvino

Megan Mullally

Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudekis

Allison Janney in Reem Acra

Amanda Seyfried and husband Thomas Sadoski

Karen Gillen
**Did the kids from Romper Room get to her wardrobe?

Kerry Washington
**She looks like Central Casting’s version of a 80s street walker.

Salma Hayek in Gucci

Salma and her husband evenolder! Daniel Craig”

Hailee Steinfeld

Alessandra Ambrosio

Abigail Spencer

Juliette Lewis
**Okay, I love pants. BUT does she have to dress like she’s going to a meeting with her divorce lawyer?

Ciara
**I usually come out in support of Ciara. I don’t laugh when people call her C-Error but looking at this outfit…this is why she is called C-Error.

Andrea Riseborough

Judith Light

Bleona
**Yeah, I don’t know who she is either.

Constance Wu

Kendall Jenner
**I don’t understand overcompensating on bigger sleeves for missing the bottom of that dress.

Jane Seymour (at the Elton John viewing party)

**Jane, if you may not have heard has posed for Playboy for some reason.

Jane Fonda in Balmain

Betty Gabriel in Tony Ward

**My friend met Betty at a jazz event last year.

Eve Hewson (The Knick

Busy Phillips

**Busy was one of the participants of the THR Oral History on last year’s EnvelopeGate. The entire read was a ride. I personally don’t fully get why Barry Jenkins is still so bummed about it because to me “Moonlight” snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. But a year later it still rankles him how it went down.

Emily Ratjakowski

**Showing off her…wedding ring.

Halle Berry
**Too casual but she looks incredible.

Abbie Cornish in Elie Saab
*With “Three Billboards..” cast mates Darnell Britt Gibson, Sandy Martin and Caleb Landry Jones

Her Vanity Fair dress

Meanwhile Sandy is my hero

Sally Hawkins in Armani Prive

Gal Gadot in Givenchy

Her Vanity Fair look. She always dresses so basic

Meryl Streep in Dior

Saoirse Ronan in Calvin Klein

**One thing that apparently hasn’t survived awards season is Saoirse’s rumored romance with singer Hozier. Allegedly they have recently broken up.

Zoey Deutch in Elie Saab

**It is the 30th anniversary of “Some Kind of Wonderful” which for me, is a big deal because I am such a fan. For Zoey it’s a big deal because that is where her parents met and fell in love.

Some Kind of Wonderful director Howard Deutch and Lea Thompson

Holland Taylor and Sarah Paulson (at the Vanity Fair party)
**Holland dresses 1000% better than Sarah.

Taraji P. Henson

Tracee Ellis Ross

Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak (at the Vanity Fair party)
**Not that Mindy has to tell people who the father of her baby is but I’m everyone is going to continue to assume it’s BJ’s.

Keep fueling that fire exes who remain “just friends”

Gina Rodriguez

Producer Megan Ellison
**People focus on the bad conduct on male producers but there were old rumors of Megan being overly ::ahem:: invested in her female staffers.

Sandra Bullock in Louis Vuitton

Joan Collins

Tatiana Maslany

Allison Williams in Armani Prive

Whoopi Goldberg in Christian Sirano
*She’s wearing grey Timberlands under the dress.

Elizabeth Banks

Viola Davis in Michael Kors

*She always wears such colorful looks but this is the most youthful look of hers and I love it.

Margot Robbie in Chanel

Kelly Ann Tran from “The Last Jedi”

Octavia Spencer
**With her “The Help” director and friend Tate Taylor.

What a Dame. Helen Mirren

**why did it take me watching them on Graham Norton to discover that she and Liam Neeson were a couple for four years?

image Click to view

**Rita Moreno did her own green dress initiative by wearing the dress she wore to the Oscars when she won for “West Side Story”

Andi McDowell
**Love the color and the shape. I wish it was cinched in tighter for a better fit but she looks damn good.

Regina Hall (at the Vanity Fair party
