Superfly
Not so much of a remake but a reimaging of the 1972 iconic blaxploitation film of the same name.
Set in Atlanta, Youngblood Priest (Trevor Jackson, Grown-ish) is an extremely successful drug dealer due to the fact that he wields his power quietly. While the other drug outfit Snowfall led by Q (Big Bank Black, Light as a Feather)
and his toadie Juju (Kaalan Walker, Kings) show their might in the drug game by flaunting their wealth, something that appeals to Priest's sidekick Eddie (Jason Mitchel, The Chi).
But Priest wants to secure enough money so that he and his girlfriends, the supportive artist Georgia (Lex Scott Davis, Training Day)
and about-business Cynthia (Andrea Londo, Narcos) can leave the ATL for a quiet life.
But when Priest goes over the head of his drug supplier and mentor Scatter (Michael K. Williams) to buy from his supplier Adalberto (Esai Morales), and when the Snowfall crew believes Priest is responsible for the murder of one of their own, Priest has to come up with a way to survive until he and his ladies can leave town.
There are some cheesy spots with the director, music video director Director X, using slo-mo shots during fight scenes, but the writing by Alex Tse (Watchmen, The Crow (reboot)) is pretty deft.
Jackson as Priest isn't a menacing tough, but his strength comes in his confidence and he is a capable lead for such a big role.
The original film was beloved not only for Ron O'Neal's legendary performance but for the Curtis Mayfield soundtrack. With this film they wanted the soundtrack to resonate in the same way. With it being set in Atlanta, rapper Future curated the music for the film and does a few tracks served as a producer and briefly appears in the film. Also appearing are Outkast's Big Boy as shady Mayor Atkins who running for re-election and (officer!) Rick Ross as one of Priest's dopeboys.

-Big Boi repped Atlanta with Andre 3000 in Outkast. While Andre surprisingly released two tracks on Mothers’ Day to celebrate his late parents, he has mostly been acting with a regular role on ABC’s “American Crime”, but he and Big Boi are still close. Andre came to Big Boi’s son’s graduation.

Back in the day
In everything old is new again news:
-Disney offered up the first look of Tim Burton's live-action Dumbo during CineEurope.
Teaser:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QPdRfqTnt4 Also at CineEurope James Cameron gave information about the currently shooting "Avatar" sequels that no one wanted or asked for.
-Ewan McGregor has been cast as the grown up Danny Torrance, the child protagonist from "The Shining". In this unnecessary sequel based on the unnecessary sequel novel of the book, titled "Doctor Sleep" - McGregor's Danny is now an alcoholic whose "shining" abilities return as he attempts sobriety. He meets a young girl with the same abilities and the two become psychically linked.
-Instead of letting film stars go away gracefully, fan goosing prompts actors to really believe fans want to see their characters again instead of what it really is: fanning and being nostalgic on social media.
On the strength of a Paul Hogan recreating Crocodile Dundee for an Australian tourism ad, Hogan is returning to the big screen with a nod to the character with "“The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee.” A bit of a parody, "The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee" has Hogan playing himself and "on the brink of receiving a Knighthood for services to comedy." When advised to keep his nose clean in the weeks leading up to the honor miseries and mischief befalls Hogan.
Hogan hasn't named his costars but has said that many of his friends have offered up their services (the tourism ad featured Chris Hemsworth and Danny McBride so maybe they'll appear). The film will be shot in Australia, Vancouver and Los Angeles.
-Random is random. I don’t know why “Moonlighting”s Curtis Armstrong and Allyce Beasley were together, but they both look great.
-Rap beefs are played out. While the east coast/west coast rap wars left a battle count, these rap beefs have a shelf life of two days on social media. The latest was Drake vs. Pusha T. For some reason unbeknownst to me Drake and Pusha had beef, Drake penned a diss track speaking against Pusha’s fiancée. So Pusha returned with the blammo and went for the jugular with his track about how Drake’s family life and exposing that the rumor that Drake fathered a child is in fact true.
Damn, Pusha
If you’ve seen “Infinity War” this would be funny
Everyone waited for Drake to hit back but a producer went on the Breakfast Club and said that he told Drake not to retaliate and that what they have on Pusha would destroy him. So instead of Drake penning a ghostwritten rap, instead he “Men in Black” everyone and made them forget the beef with a video reuniting him with his Degrassi High classmates.
I have never seen this show in my life, but I do love seeing Nina Dobrev!
I do know Drake’s character got shot. I know that much.
I’m Upset:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fn68-iFjDeI -I never watched "One Tree Hill" and I even once polled coworkers to see if any had (one did and only in the first season because he thought it was a show about basketball) so I don't even go here but for some reason this cast just won't fade away into oblivion like the stars of other CW shows have (where is the 90210 news? Exactly). Several of the cast members teased #Christmas2018 on Twitter and Instagram making people believe that there would be a OTH reunion. Instead, they were teasing an upcoming Hallmark Channel movie, one of the 8,000 Christmas movies Hallmark will put out this season.
Titled "The Christmas Contract", the TV movie will star Hilarie Burton, Robert Buckley, Danneel Ackles, Antwon Tanner, and a musical appearance from Tyler Hilton.
It also stars non-OTH but even more C-listers like Cheryl Ladd and son Jordan, Bruce Boxleitner and Jason London (the London twin who isn't strung out on drugs).
The synopsis is as follows : "It’s Jolie’s (Burton) first time going back home to Louisiana since her devastating break up with Foster (Hunter Burke, Claws). Seeing him is inevitable as their parents run the town’s annual Christmas Market together, but when she discovers Foster is bringing home a new girlfriend, Jolie cannot bear the thought of going home alone and seeing them together. Her best friend Naomi (Ackles) suggests that Jolie bring her flaky brother, Jack (Buckley), home for Christmas as he has no plans this year. Jolie, a professional web designer, is hesitant; so, Naomi, a lawyer, creates a Christmas contract to give them both something they want-a buffer for those awkward moments around Jolie’s ex and a website to help sell Jack’s upcoming novel. Unbeknownst to them, the Christmas contract proves to be so much more than what they signed up for.
While not in this Yuletide offering, OTH alum Sophia Bush was on Andy Cohen's podcast and she opened up more about the harassment she and other female cast-members experienced on the show under the series' showrunner Mark Schwann. She related how Schwann was obsessed with one of the stars who she didn't name but fans say it's Danneel Ackles as she has relayed a similar experience in another interview stating that Schwann told people the two were dating.
Bush: We knew about things he’d say to people, we knew about the late-night texts, we knew when he was super-obsessed with one girl on our show that he started trying to bang down her hotel room door in the middle of the night,”. She had to be moved, her rooms were moved. And then her boyfriend came and stayed with her the next month. It almost came to fisticuffs between the two of them.” (dawnybee: Wasn’t Jenny with Danneel at this point in time? Did he try to use his bowlegs to kick Schwann’s ass??)
Bush also talked about feeling pressure to marry Mayhem (or as the normals call him, Chad Michael Murray). When asked by Andy Cohen how did the pressure manifest itself, she explained:
Bush: “Because how do you let everybody down? And how do you, what’s the fight? And when you have bosses telling you that you’re the only person who gets a person to work on time and 200 people either get to either see their kids at night or they don’t because our days start on time?”
From what I'm reading she was made to believe she was a rock for Mayhem and that only the good love of her could get him to straighten up and fly right and she didn't think, "Fcuk off with that noise?"
Wouldn't be me.
-It's that time of year again: the nerd nirvana that is San Diego Comic Con. Announcements are rolling out who will be in attendance like Syfy series "Deadly Class", "Nightflyers" and "Krypton" (which centers on Kal-El's grandfather). But more notably are those who are not going to be there. HBO has announced that there will be no "Westworld" or "Game of Thrones" panels.
Since this is “Game of Thrones” final season it is surprising that the HBO is not sending the cast there for a last hurrah. But that’s okay, the cast is doing their thing.
Sophie Turner (Sansa) got a tattoo with a Stark motto
My show OTP Gwendoline Christie and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau teamed up to model charity tees designed by Christie’s boyfriend Giles Deacon
Nik is on his tiptoes hence the laughs
Emilia Clarke was joined by Jason Momoa for the series’ wrap party. Momoa who hasn’t been on the show since SEASON ONE routinely hangs with the cast when he’s in Europe.
Moon of my life @emilia_clarke every time I leave you my face hurts from smiling to much. I Fucking love you forever. Aloha j A post shared by

Jason will likely be at Comic Con for the 60th time for “Aquaman”.
Sexass Arthur Curry!
Nicole Kidman and Amber Heard
Patrick Wilson
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta
-Maybe Gal Gadot will return for “Wonder Woman 2”
-Marvel will have a booth on the floor but there will be no Hall H panels as they wanted to take a breather and likely they will present their wares at Disney’s D23.
Hopefully my girl Angelina Jolie will attend for “Maleficent 2” but doubtful.
Starz will not be brining “Outlander” however, they will do a panel at NY’s Comic Con.
New Dr. Who Jodie Whitaker will make her SDCC debut.
-Zachary Levi whose Nerd Machine's NERD HQ has been the second best venue for panels will not be at Comic Con this year; and likely never again. Levi took to his Instagram to make the announcement and said he couldn't go into details. Last year Nerd HQ had a reduced presence at Comic Con because Comic Con International has been cracking down on competition and have attempted to limit the amount of conflicting off-site events that happen during SDCC.
Or maybe he can take over for Chris Hardwick because Hardwick's ex-girlfriend Chloe Dykstra penned an essay about the emotional abuse she suffered at his hands. So....there may be a host opening. (
https://medium.com/@skydart/rose-colored-glasses-6be0594970ca)
Levi, however, should still be in attendance for the WB panel as he is the lead of the just wrapped, future WB/DC failed film "Shazam".
The film also stars Asher Angel (Andi Mack) as Shazam's real form Billy Batson, Jack Dylan Grazer (It), as Billy's friend, and bae Mark Strong as Dr. Sivana.
Seen in Toronto while shooting were Adam Brody and D.J. Cotrona who were both cast in the scrapped "Justice League: Mortal" film with Brody as The Flash and Cotrona as Superman.
This talk of "Justice League: Mortal" brings me back to its Batman, Armand Hammer. I keep trying to walk away from the "Call Me By Your Name" fandom but they keep pulling me in.
These bastards
Once he wrapped the film tentatively and terribly titled "The Darkest Dark" with Dakota Johnson and Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2, Atlanta), Armie flew to New York
In a New York state of mind
to rehearse for the limited run off-Broadway play Straight White Men starring Tom Skerritt, Josh Charles, Paul Schneider and humorist Kate Bornstein.
The premise: On Christmas Eve, Ed (played by Tom Skerritt) gathers his three adult sons, Drew (Call Me By Your Name's Armie Hammer), Matt (played by Paul Schneider) and Jake (played by Josh Charles), to celebrate with matching pajamas, trash-talking and Chinese takeout. But when a question they can’t answer interrupts their holiday celebration, they are forced to confront their own identities.
When Armie tweeted the terribly photoshopped promo pic for the play on his IG
, his mother Dru commented:
Which is hilarious because the play written by Young Jean Lee isn't the glorification of straight white men, but of these white men who are aware of their privilege and this dance they do of trying to not benefit from it.
While in New York, the hometown of his CMBYN costar Timothee Chalamet, Timotay was at Cannes with pal The Weeknd (to the consternation of his stans fans; then off to Europe where he took an airplane leg shot just like Armie does.
The copycat!
where he is filming the Netflix film "The King" with Timothee as young Prince Hal (which, funny enough, is Timotay’s middle name) before he becomes King Henry V, Joel Edgerton as Falstaff, Robert Pattinson as The Dauphin, Lily-Rose Depp as Princess Catherine and Ben Mendelsohn, Sean Harris (MacBeth)and Tom Glynn-Carney (Dunkirk) in other roles.
Some Timotay fans were worried if he will would be able to pull off a British accent but then people realized King Henry V’s hair looked like this
And the real, heart racing, brain spinning panic kicked in for fans worrying about their French mouse cutting his hair in a terrible bowl cut. Especially when Glynn-Carney teased his own haircut.
Even though a hairstylist for the production posted on IG about making wigs, fans still worried that Timotay would do the chop.
A tweet Armie liked
In between the Armie AND Timothee commenting on fans' CMBYN accounts
the two hit each other up on Twitter in what seems like a carefully orchestrated move by Armie to troll because Armie is an internet troll. A benign one, but a troll nonetheless.
A guy with great penmenship and can crack masturbation jokes is my kind of guy
