Game of Thrones S8x04

I learned way back when the show gave us Stannis giving his Father of the Year speech to Shireen about how he fought for her to live, then followed it up with him burning her at the stake that Game of Thrones will give us a happy moment than dash our happiness against a stone much like how the Gold Cloaks killed those Baratheon bastards.

Last week we won against the Night King, but although we lost some very good soldiers in that battle like my sweetheart Jorah, my homie Lyanna Mormont, the redeemed Theon, smooth voiced Beric Dondarrion, Edd and a bunch of nameless Dorthraki, we got Arya being the MVP and saving the land.

This week, still high off of victory we get Gendry proposing to Arya (shot down because as Arya told Ned in S1, 'that will never be me") and Brienne and Jaime making tall love, we get the quadruple gut punch.

Jon giving up Ghost!
Jaime hitting it and quitting it with Brienne.
Rhaegal dying.
Missandei beheaded.

People are really mad about tonight's episode and critics are slamming it and it's not the best but I can understand some of the characterizations. And also we're dealing with less episodes this season and it's like Dan and David want to give fans what they want (Arya/Gendry, Brienne/Jaime) but then those very fans feel like it's too rushed but if it didn't happen this season, it would never happen. And getting pissed over Missandei and Rhaegal being killed this week when last week fans and critics criticized the show for being soft and not killing off major characters is completely unfair. You want major characters to die or not? Or do you just want characters you hate to die? Because I know if they kill off Dany there will be a dust up, but if they kill Jon they'd be whinging too. The writers just have to do what makes sense to them creatively. They can't make everyone happy.

-People feel that this season has been the character assassination of Dany. But this is the closest Dany has come to realizing what she's been working for since the beginning. Seeing it potentially slipping from her grasp because her nephew/boyfriend has a better claim understandably is causing her to be more ruthless. This is not new with Dany. When the Dorthraki swarm tried her, she killed a score of them. She burned the Tarlys alive for not capitulating. Right now she is just trying her best to not sic her remaining dragon on everyone.

-Jaime and Brienne. I am hardcore Brienne and Jaime shipper but I'm not disappointed by Jaime leaving her to go to Cersei. The show has foreshadowed so much for so long that everyone had to have known that no matter what happened, Jamie and Cersei would be endgame. Even if it's not because he loves her but because his ending is tied to hers. They came into this world together and they will go out together. And as much as I think he loves Brienne, I don't think he is in love with her. He loves how she sees him and it makes him feel good about himself. He can finally be the honorable person he has always wanted to be without being ridiculed for it. It hurt him to hurt Brienne but he knows that his self-loathing won't be cured by her. He needed to handle Cersei and only by fighting her directly can he help how he views himself, even if it means certain death.

- I wasn't thrilled by Brienne crying over Jamie. I felt it was a mischaracterization because she's had to not let people see how much they have hurt her in order to not let them have that power over her. But I guess it's character growth that she could put her guard down for Jaime, but sucks that she couldn't have her happy ending. Also, how lousy is Jaime's game? "Oh, it's hot. Lemme take off my shirt. Oops, I can't actually do that because I'm drunk as f*ck and I have a gold hand."

-Everyone catches feelings fast in Winterfell. Gendry proposing to Arya? Why?? Was the sex that bomb?

-I hate to love Cersei. She's killing characters I love and she will surely get hers in the end but I love that she has achieved the power she wanted. This is her middle finger to Tywin and to her brothers who were put over her by Tywin and Kevyn just because they are males.

-I've debated whether or not I think Jon will die but I think Jon will live and he will just walk away from it all. Him being so happy for Sam and Gilly brought tears to my eyes. And he gave Ghost to Tormund as a way to further divorce himself (IMO) from being a child of Ned. But I think when the second great war ends he'll go to Tormund, get his dog and live with the true Northerners and let Sansa rule.

-Loved the call back of Bronn ::shaking fist:: BRONN!!:: saying, "I knew you two were f*cking! Two blond toffs. It must be like looking in the mirror." Now it's finally true. And the call back to Brienne having to assist Jaime. The first time was with his dinner fork as he "failed at eating dinner" and now failing at seduction.
