Yes, I had so much fun reading up on Cold War era history! In fact, I ended up getting a used copy of The Sword and the Shield which was about the history of the KGB, though it didn't really enter into the story after all.

I just got into Marvel this summer and it's like jumping into the rabbit hole to Wonderland--a combination of good, bad, and wtf. But then again I shouldn't be surprised; it's not the only fandom like that. AKA I heard Dean flirted with a dog? XD
