Standing still

Apr 08, 2020 16:38

Do you ever stand still? Really still, in both mind and body? Lay down your book, pen, computermouse, or whatever you were doing and just.. focus. Listen to the sounds around you: ticking clocks, singing birds, the wind blowing against the trees, raindrops crashing against the window, children's laughter. Or maybe there are no sounds, except for ( Read more... )

Meditation, yes, I've done that plenty of times. It's relaxing and calming. I agree that more people should do it simply because when you enjoy the simple pleasures of the world, you're happier and a happy life is far better than a sad, depressed, tragic life no matter how poetic people make tragedy sound.

But there is a counter to that as well. For those that are struggling through life, who don't know if they'll have money to pay their bills tomorrow, or feed their kids and themselves, or who will take care of their family because they've injured themselves on their job, meditation doesn't do squat. Goes both ways

that's a good point you made there, and I agree with you,
but of course my text was more directed at people who do have more than enough money, food, health, shelter and friends to get by and still are unhappy, because they take everything for granted and compare themselves to people who appear to have more and think they deserve more, but don't want to work for it. Unfortunately I know many of those people, so that's what inspired me to write this. Thanks for reading and for your input :)

Agreed. I guess being the way we are..or at least I am, it's hard to comprehend why those people are so unsatisfied. What is so difficult to understand? Why is it so hard for those people to live life and be thankful for what they have? Heh it's pathetic.

Okay, so add me as an LJ friend already. :P

You commented on my _feel_infinite_ and I read your open journal entries and I think I could use an ongoing commentary on books, film, music and most importantly, things that matter to you. Your journal is a lot less shallow than many and to me that makes it read-worthy.

Thanks for that last sentence, I'm taking it as a big compliment.

I made a post exactly like this two years ago in GJ. Meditation really does give you a different perspective.

This is so beautiful and so true. Without those little things, we'd be lost.
