Were you given any kind of advice like "Tell the people at customs that you are visiting and then come to us and we will get your visa put through"?

Because that is essentially what happened when I went to Germany...

I was given a total of no advise. Seriously. The only time I even thought about immigration was the morning I left when I went 'huh, maybe I should print out the e-mail saying I was accepted into the intership'. Kew hadn't had trouble in the 15 years of interns, so they pretty much assumed it would be okay.

And I can't do that now. They've got my fingerprints, pictures, and a copy of my passport on file. If I tried to pull the 'I'm visiting' card, I'd probably get banned from the country for serious.

Apparently there's a new law that says students and/or interns and/or workers need a visa and/or sponsorship when they never had to before. It's all terribly unclear. Hopefully I'll know Monday what the actual laws are.
