You wake up in a bed not your own, with the sun warming your eyes and Connor’s breath softly hitting your neck. His arm is limp across your stomach, and it’s only as you turn toward him you remember how naked you both are. It makes the beating in your chest louder. Your face is flushed from it-or maybe it’s the sun.
You don’t want to wake him, so you’re careful about brushing back the curls from his face. After a second or a minute, you slowly kiss his forehead, then his lips. His arm tightens around you and he sighs, muttering, “Katie Kat.” He never fully wakes up, and you can’t be bothered to correct him. The nickname is beginning to grow on you, but you’ll never let him know.
You don’t think it’s possible to be closer to him than you already are; still you try, curling into his side as he breathes in deeply. There’s a faint smile on his face and you’re positive your heart just stalled because of it.
You’re in bed with a boy you’re not sure how much further you could fall for. But you keep going, and even if you don’t believe in perfection, you feel like waking up every morning with him is shy of it.
