HNNGHH I LOVE GUNNERKRIGG COURT

Annie started off so small, and now she is growing up, and we were with her all the way, she and Jack are ~teenagers~ now and I want them to be friends. I feel the same way about Tiffany Aching, from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. I still have to borrow I Shall Wear Midnight but I reread A Hat Full of Sky and ( Read more... )

Man, I had never heard of Gunnerkrigg Court until like...idk, a couple months ago? Less than? Ammmy mentioned it in passing and showed me one thing and I ended up starting at the beginning and obsessively going through and I love it, Jillian, I love it so much. I feel what you mean about her & Tiffany Aching; I like that I can see her ageing in the art, but it's so subtle and normal like a person actually growing up that I didn't notice I'd noticed it until I went and looked and thought oh, yes, and it's the same with Tiffany, I think, I don't notice because you don't...like, stare at someone and go YOU ARE GROWING AS A PERSON, MARVELLOUS. Is that spelled right, IDK, two Ls looks wrong to me.

Also, there is one line in that that always gets me, and it is: 'Miss Tick says what you don't know can kill you.' Because it's true. And READ THE HELL OUT OF I SHALL WEAR MIDNIGHT, it is one of the ones I am so glad to have in hardback.

Yesssss ;o;

this entry was brought about specifically because I looked at today's comic and realized how grown up Annie and Jack look, how different from just like, a few months ago storywise where their eyes were bigger and Jack was being driven crazy by the headspider or whatever -- and yeah part of that is a art style shift too but it was definitely deliberate. And now we see them in non uniform clothing more often and you get a better sense of their personal style.

Fuck Hogwarts I wanna go to Gunnerkrigg Court. ... I would probably die or something but it would be way more interesting.

I think I can't put a hold on anything until I pay my library fines >____> LOOK I DON'T HAVE ANY CHANGE OR SINGLES RN but I will get it and read it :E

YYY the style has changed but it kind of seems - IDK, I don't know what the decision behind that actually was - as an observer that it makes sense for it to look a bit different as part of ageing? There's a bit in Urban Shaman where Jo is experiencing someone else's memory, and she has a little moment of disconnect because this woman is so much older, and she looks at teenagers and perceives them as children, not in a THEY'RE BABIES way, just- she's looking differently at them than Jo would, because her age gives her a different perspective and interaction with the world. I'd been thinking of that with regard to the GC art recently, actually, I just had no one to ramble at about it >_>

Incidentally fuck HTML.

I keep meaning to check out Gunnerkrigg Court. I adore Tiffany Aching, though. I just finished a re-listen of the first three audiobooks. I need to get "I Shall Wear Midnight." I may pick up the audio so I have the full set. Also, my library fines are higher than the cost of an audiobook, oops.

It is a really satisfying comic, which... I don't know, may be an odd thing to say, but I'm glad that I came late to it and had the chance to read entire chapters at a time. I'm definitely buying the books when I get a chance. Sometimes it's quirky funny, sometimes it's really moving, and it's just totally fascinating, with great characters. There is not a single character I don't like and am not interested in finding out more about them. (That is a really awkwardly phrased sentence.) I keep trying to convince myself to not read for a month so I can devour bigger portions of storyline, but I need to find out what's happening ._. EVEN THOUGH NOTHING REALLY IS HAPPENING AT THE MOMENT ( ... )

Yeah, I know a lot of people who have tried to RP Harry Potter characters and it generally falls pretty flat. I think it’s the world that’s really interesting and you don’t have much once you take that away.

Admittedly I do RP from Harry Potter, but only characters that aren't the main ones -- characters that have like, no characterization whatsoever, so I get to make it up >_>. Like the Death Eater that took the chunk out of Moody's nose, Evan Rosier, or Rodolphus Lestrange, Bellatrix's bitch the Death Eater that just stared blankly when he was sentenced to Azkaban. But there are so many holes in the world, too... in a perverse way, though, that makes me want to FIX them rather than abandon the universe, play it the way it "ought" to be played. Which is arrogant and dangerous territory, but honestly, that's what I'm always doing when I play a canon character. Especially comics. /glowers at DC
