I was turned on to seeing Chappie from the long trailer that showed actual diversity in the human cast (I still think District 9 was a hypocritical mess when it came to discussing racial injustice; just saying) but turned off by a 30 second trailer that made it look like it'd just be the plot to Short Circuit & the RoboCop movies but with the gritty District 9 stylization. Like, is there shakey-cam in this movie? I'd rather not pay money to see something that'll leave me nauseous.
Either way- I'm always encouraged to see more robot characters becoming acceptable in the mainstream (see icon) ¦P

What mostly interested me was approaching AI from the angle that just seems really obvious when you stop to think about it: that a truly intelligent computer would still need to learn, and would still have a personality that would be shaped by its environment. Watching the evolution of his personality was probably what made Chappie stand out as such a, well, HUMAN figure.
