Words: ~2800
A/N: 50 sentences written for

#12 - Blessing
Sokka was only a year old when his sister was born - small and squishy with a small tuft of hair - and he stuck out his tongue and crossed his hims when his father told him the news; Stupid little sisters, he thought, unable to vocalize this well but pointed at his father angrily and said, "Boomerang!" but Hakoda just laughed.
#32 - Sorrow
Katara still asked when Mom was coming back but all Sokka could do was wrap his arms around his sister and try not to soak her hair as they cried together.
#22 - Quirks
He found her one day, behind their tent holding her hands in front of her and a dusting of snow floating beneath her fingertips; "Katara!" he yelled, confused and concerned and she dropped her hands causing the snow to fall, too.
#39 - Share
Dad made dried seal blubber - almost a sackful - and as Sokka heard his sister crunch through the snow, he shoved as much as he could in his mouth (he regretted this later as the taste of seal blubber is not as good on the way back up).
#46 - Horizon
Sokka patrolled the edge of the village, where snow met ice water, ever vigilant for the sign of his father (or the Fire Nation); Katara sat in the snow behind him, making snow castles with little watch towers she imagined her brother looked out from -- she felt safe every time he glanced back at her.
#17 - Belief
He knew very little about the world - the Fire Nation was evil, bravery was more important than most things and his sister had her head in the clouds - Sokka didn't believe in Gran Gran's stories, magic or the Avatar and his job was to bring Katara back into the real world.
#43 - Nuance
"Careful, Katara," he said, swatting at his sister - not the best idea as she held a sharp knife at Sokka's temple; "I asked you to cut my hair not my head off! I don't want to start bleeding."
#29 - Jewel
On her twelfth birthday, Gran Gran dressed Katara in thick seal skin and marked her forehead with a symbol meaning beauty; "You look like Mom," Sokka said and his sister brushed her fingers over her necklace.
#33 - Stupidity
Sokka knew jumping on a magical flying buffalo and taking the Avatar on a pilgrimage across the world was important - but he also thought it was stupid and dangerous; Katara thought they would make history but either way, he wouldn't let her go alone.
#16 - Breaking
"Where's Sokka?" she asked, tears flooding her eyes as Jet smirked at her - confident and sick - and Katara imagined a million scenarios where her brother's body was discarded on the forest floor.
#5 - Worry
Katara was very trusting; she latched onto any stranger with a sad story but Sokka worried and asked her time and time again to use a little judgment before she gets them all killed.
#15 - Breathing
"It's all about your breathing," Katara said as she fluidly moved her arms around her body, reminiscent of the water she was attempting to bend - she was not yet a master waterbender but she knew more than Aang and certainly more than Sokka so her words were heeded; once Sokka found himself paying especially close attention to his breathing and moving his arms slightly about him - but no, he didn't really believe in magic.
#23 - Question
The smell of sea prunes already fading into a small memory, Sokka's heart sank as his sister looked into his eyes, the same question playing through her mind - but (even though they were children, even though it was their father who was maybe only a few days journey away, even though Sokka was still mad at Aang) he turned to Bato with bravery - they must go help Aang; and Bato knew then they were destined for greatness and he would keep Hakoda alive long enough to see it through.
#21 - Quiet
As they flew out of the North Pole, Katara touched her hand to Sokka's, asking permission to comfort him in loss; when he didn't turn away, she pulled him into her chest and they traveled in silence.
#40 - Solitary
In the caves under Omashu, Sokka felt like there was no intelligent life around him; in the torch light he devised plans of escape while he thought of his sister trapped in the dark.
#31 - Smirk
Katara did not get along with the newest member of their team (Sokka was already referring to them as a team in his head) because she was messy and loud, sarcastic and strong, funny and spontaneous and Sokka realized that these were all the things he liked most about her.
#41 - Nowhere
HIs head was filled with cactus juice - the world around him was on fire but they were stranded in the ocean and Momo spoke to him of poetry and fruit and and - he knew he wasn't making sense; Katara's cheeks flushed red and she was yelling ... something - Sokka was glad she even tried to keep grounded as his vision swam.
#1 - Walking
Before Aang, they walked everywhere but their village was small and they never walked far; now, even a mile felt like too much work so Sokka complained and Katara propped her feet up at night.
#6 - Whimsy
"That's it, I quit!" Sokka shouted, throwing up his hands in protest - it just wasn't fair for him at all if the others were going to use bending when they played charades -- "I expected better of you, Katara," he said in his best disappointed voice; his sister was usually all about the rules and fairness, except, apparently, when it came to winning.
#8 - Whiskey and Rum
Katara doled out a few copper pieces to everyone but it wasn't enough for Sokka to buy anything that caught his eye; after much convincing he got Toph and Aang to chip in and the returned to camp with a few bottles of hard liquor - "For sterilizing!" he exclaimed but Katara shook her head and pretended not to notice when it all disappeared.
#26 - Jump
If she said, "Jump!" he would just look at her, solemn and annoyed - then argue, complain, debate and finally sigh and relent, "Okay, okay, how high?"
#42 - Neutral
"I am staying out of his," Katara claimed, holding her hands up in front of her as Sokka and Momo each held the end of a basket of papayas only to laugh when the lemur let go and her brother ended up with a large papaya-shaped bruise on the side of his face.
#25 - Quitting
Sokka was great at using a boomerang and he was pretty decent with a sword but after watching the gloomy Fire Nation girl throw knives, he wanted to pick up this discipline, too; "What are you a quitter?" Katara asked as Sokka sulked back into camp only 30 minutes later; her brother frowned but said nothing as Toph explained, "No, he lost all his knives."
#14 - Burning
When she closed her eyes Katara saw fire and felt the heat in her limbs; fire was destruction and she remembered many villages set aflame and the searing pain in her hand when Aang tried bending and her eyes flew open quickly; Sokka could feel her face burning and see the sadness in her eyes.
#35 - Sarcasm
This is a stupid bet, Sokka thought, twiddling his thumbs, then counting his toes, then trying to skip rocks on the grassy ground as Toph mocked him loudly and Katara and Aang laughed quietly over the fire but the victory of no camp duty for a week would be worth the day without sarcasm ... he hoped.
#19 - Balcony
Katara looked off the balcony as part of Ba Sing Se spread below her - people milled about almost happy she thought; Sokka joined her, rubbing sleep from his eyes - "Everyone looks so normal, don't they?" he asked and his sister smiled back at him.
#9 - War
There were many nameless, faceless innocents they couldn't save and eve more nameless, faceless Fire Nation soldiers that they were responsible for and every night Sokka wondered if they crossed the line; Katara cooked the rice she bought at the market and together they pretended that no one ever died.
#30 - Just
Katara believed in a lot of things - the spirits and fate, Aang, and that one day the world would all make sense again; Sokka watched his sister, broken in so many places, bring the Avatar back to life and he knew this was not fair to her - she was so young and he could not heal her back up again.
#36 - Sordid
Aang was barely conscious (On and off but I don't think he hears me) so Katara spent a lot of time with water in her hands, healing his insides and Sokka planned planned planned for the invasion, regarding maps and going over every possible scenario but when it was early in the morning and they sat together on the deck Katara would curse Zuko; Sokka nodded sympathetically but again Katara was too trusting and they couldn't make any more mistakes.
#2 - Waltz
In the Fire Nation, posing as colonials and surrounded by teenagers with potential firepower, Sokka watched his sister dance with the Avatar; she was beautiful and smiling - something Sokka hadn't really seen in a while.
#10 - Weddings
He may not look it but Sokka was somewhat observant so he pulled Aang aside - they were friends after all - just to make something clear: "I love my sister, Aang and she can't take any more loss."
#13 - Bias
"You are the best Waterbender ever!" he yelled as Katara froze some water into ice cubes to cool them off in the Fire Nation heat; "I'm the only Waterbender you know," she countered but her brother pointed to Aang and raised his eyebrows - "You can't compare me to the Avatar!" but she obviously couldn't take a compliment.
#4 - Wonder
Katara was so sure in herself, in the Avatar, in the spirits that she often wondered how Sokka was so doubtful and different and at the same time, why he always stayed with her despite it all.
#45 - Natural
Katara made the best of her surroundings, pulling water from everywhere and everything but Sokka missed the snow and heavy fur clothing of the South Pole; Katara splashed him with water than froze him in a block of ice - "that's not what I wanted and you know it."
#37 - Soliloquy
Katara had all but tuned her brother out as he prattled on about his master plan, writing and rewriting on the longest scroll in history, crossing things out then getting angry at the mess of ink he created, talking in circles and making sense to no one, least of all his sister who was only half paying attention; eventually she couldn't take it and grabbed the scroll from his hands mid-sentence, "That is enough for today, Sokka."
#27 - Jester
Sokka squished a pile of berries in his hair, berry juice running down his face as Mom licked it off - just to make his sister laugh.
#28 - Jousting
Katara leaned against Appa, unable to breathe from laughing as Sokka swung in his space sword in front of him, only to get it stuck in the wall of rock Toph created - "This is not funny," he grunted, bracing his feet on earth and trying to pull his sword free.
#20 - Bane
They sat around eating berries and rice, not the most substantial or nutritious meal but no one at the Western Air Temple complained, they were mostly just happy to be alive and together; Sokka stuck out his tongue and crossed his arms, sick of fruit and dying for some fish but Katara pushed at his shoulders unexpectedly, sending her brother to stone floor laughing.
#38 - Sojourn
Sokka said camping was temporary, just something they had to do while Aang learned water bending, then earth bending, then still when he learned fire bending but it just seemed to go on and on forever; the cratered Air Temple floor dug into Katara's back and it was cold, hanging off the edge of the world - but sometimes she didn't even mind.
#24 - Quarrel
"She was my mom, too," he said, feeling wetness on his cheeks - unaccustomed to showing weakness, Sokka angrily wiped his tears away - "I miss her all the time too."
#18 - Balloon
"Don't," Katara began, placing her hand gently on Zuko's shoulder to stop him mid-sentence; "If Sokka gets any more compliments I'm sure his head will be so big it'll fall off his shoulders."
#48 - Virtuous
"If I'm sneaking off to see you in the middle of the night then..." Suki began as she trailed kisses across his collarbone but Sokka cut her off there - "My sister is just a little kid - I don't even want to think about that!"
#47 - Valiant
He knew they had to separate, that - even though he didn't really believe in destiny or fate or whatever they were calling it - that they had different tasks on this day, that Katara would be strong and good and she would win and Sokka - well Sokka would try his best and keep his friends safe and hopefully save the world and hopefully live to see it; still, though, he wished to be beside his sister but while the cold ocean soaked through his tights Sokka was so proud of his sister for her bravery.
#3 - Wishes
On the edge of the Fire Nation, Katara saw the sky burn red (fiercer and more dangerous than when the moon was bagged at the North Pole) and she wished on a shooting star for everyone to stay safe; on the edge of the Earth Kingdom, Sokka took the wheel of an airship while the world around him was engulfed in flames.
#7 - Waste/Wasteland
Sokka could still hear the scorched earth crackle beneath their feet in the aftermath and as he grabbed a handful of ash and let it fall through his fingers, Katara's eyes were on the horizon and she thought It will grow back with hope for more than just the environment.
#50 - Defeat
As Zuko stood in front of the crowd with Aang by his side, Sokka felt that this was right now, that this is what the last year was supposed to accomplish and he looked at his sister as she beamed, glowed, sparkled almost in the sunlight; Sokka knew things would never be the same but he also knew he raised Katara well and she would still continue to save the world - with or without him.
#11 - Birthday
She returned to the South Pole for her brother's birthday (a long journey but shorter for her on Appa than the many others who arrived by boat the night before), grown now with her hair down to her stomach and gathered in two braids (no hair loopies to be found), but she had a bag full of assorted delicacies from the Earth Kingdom that Sokka ate half of that night, feeling sick to his stomach and no older.
#44 - Near
She was only as close as an Appa-ride away, always living in a different Earth Kingdom (and, rarely, Fire Nation) village, never receiving his letters in a timely manner and hardly ever writing back; instead Sokka received notes from various friends and acquaintances about how surprised they were to see Katara and how much she changed and her brother missed her greatly, even as he held his wife and his children and even as the Southern Water Tribe grew and in it waterbenders were born - Sokka missed his stupid, uptight, no fun sister so he continued to write, even knowing there would be hardly any response.
#49 - Victory
Katara was very old, hair turned all white and thin and Sokka was slightly older with most of his hair missing; despite this, they traveled to the North Pole - a long, long journey by boat, many months with Sokka's grandson and a few other young men from the tribe but they reached the North Pole shortly after Avatar's 17th birthday - Katara saw a twinkle in her eyes and cried, Sokka touched the young girl's shoulder (I know this must be hard for you, but you remind us of someone we were very close to.), then gathered Katara's fragile body into his arms.
