Rowena was secretive, they all knew that. She kept to herself and when she did speak, she would lash out at them. Her words were dark and painful and Helga found herself psychically withdrawing from the other woman at times. But she knew all that about Rowena going into this. She knew her dark side, her anger, her intensity. But she was beautiful -- pale like an ice queen, long locks cascading over her shoulders -- and she was intelligent, witty, thoughtful. She was everything Helga found attractive.

She doesn't remember how it started, really. It just seems like it has always been. And she agrees with Rowena to keep it a secret. It is certainly something Godric would frown upon and Salazar, though they had once been close friends, was being to scare her to her bones. So they locked themselves away in the Ravenclaw Tower, sprawled against the dark blue comforter of Rowena's deluxe bed and stayed there for hours. In those moments, Rowena was almost kind, caring. She would smile into Helga's skin -- warm and loving and the breath over the back of her neck would give Helga goosebumps.

And yet it was a secret. Among the others she was distant, cold. They were cordial to each other in public, friendly in the way Helga and Godric were. Helga treasured the moments when they were alone, when she could express herself without fear of Rowena's anger, when she could kiss the other woman passionately. But Helga began to notice that coldness seep into their time together. Helga reached across the bed and trailed her fingers down Rowena's body. When she reached her stomach, Rowena suddenly threw her hand away and rolled away from her.

Afterward, Helga wondered how she never noticed. It seemed so obvious at the end -- Rowena's sensitivity about her body, her anger, her mood swings. It all seemed so obvious and Helga's blood boiled at the idea of it. And she begged, begged Rowena to tell her about the father. To, please, just let her in, let her help in some way. Instead, Rowena retreated to her tower with her child, alone. Helga cried in her own bedroom by the kitchens, alone.

Rowena never let her near the child, the baby girl. She had found a new confidante, a new escape, someone to replace Helga in her life. Rowena couldn't love more than one person at a time. Her daughter now held that role and Helga was left by the wayside.
