He is drinking a lovely martini made with Skyy citrus vodka and kalamuta olives (and a lonely jalpeneo stuffed green olive.) Um...ew. I did actually taste it before cementing this opinion. Um...ew.
I've never actually had a martini, but the sound of citris, kalamuta olives and a stuffed green olive makes me feel like another round of morning sickness coming on. Blech. I'll take your word for it.
Unless I'm out of Tanqueray Ten. And Tanqueray. And Bombay Sapphire. And Hendricks. And Gilbeys. And anything I can squeeze out of the neighbors' juniper bushes.
JP is a recent martini drinker. I'm sure it's a not-quite-mid-life "Bond, James Bond" type thing. He keeps talking about trying them with gin but says he doesn't want to mess with a good thing. He was using up the last of the olives I brought home from a new olive bar. I tried to explain the difference between kalamuta olives and green olives but he wanted to be adventurous. As previously stated...um, ew. Gotta give him kudos, though. He drank the whole thing.
You tasted the martini or the jalapeno olive? I love jalapeno olives. I love any olive stewed in martini. Hate martinis, though. Unless, of course, it is an apple martini.
I tasted the martini. I cannot actually make myself swallow a green olive. I remember eating one off a salad bar as a kid and thinking it was one of the worst flavors known to mankind then. When JP started doing the "martini thing" I did eat one of the ones I brought home from the olive bar (I think it was a garlic stuffed one) figuring surely my tastes have matured enough to enjoy them. Um, no. Ick. To the martini, the olive and all. Strangely enough, I have developed a fondness for kalamuta olives and black olives. Just can't get myself to enjoy the green ones. And jalapeno, i.e. hot, is right off my list as well. Apple martini sounds not so bad. Much like the chocolate martini I saw a recipe for. How can anything with chocolate in it be wrong?
If you love chocolate and cocktails you must try this great drink! We prefer Godiva liqueur and chocolate, but you can use your favorite in this recipe. You can use your favorite milk, dark, or semisweet chocolate with great results.
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the chocolate liqueur and vodka to the shaker. Shake briskly to mix and chill. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with the chocolate.
Makes 1 Serving.
Now I would imagine that a "REAL" martini drinker would call this sacreligious but phooey on them...sounds good to me.
