Today is my mother's "death day."  It sneaks up on me every year.  Yesterday I asked my dh what day it was with that feeling of dread that accompanies having forgotten something important.  Sure enough.  Here it comes again.  It's been 19 years.  God, how did that much time go by?  2/3 of my life has now been spent without my mother.  She's missed ( Read more... )

I'm very sorry. I can only imagine how difficult this day is for you.

Just killed the tears dead, thar. Dammit, I wanted to wallow a bit. Oh well.

Heh. Pets tend to do that, don't they?

Honestly it isn't as difficult as it "should" be and that's part of the problem. Thanks for the sympathy, though.

Both of my parents are still alive, but I still grieve for a dear friend every year on the anniversary of her death. She died almost thirteen years ago.

When people ask what's wrong on that day, tell them the truth. You're remembering a beloved parent who passed beyond the veil several years ago. I think most folks can will relate to that sentiment very, very much.

As for the cat yak episode - yeah, life has a way of snapping you out of a maudlin state in the most creative and often disgusting ways. Humanity is better for its pets, that's for sure.
