Yes but indie and pop are very vast and different. I understand there might be a few "which catagories will we go in" for a few bands, but in general, Brit Pop and Indie Tock are very different things. So vast you would not put them together.
As I understand it (though of course this may just be me :) ) 'indie' originated from the fact that these bands were on independent record labels i.e. small labels not affiliated with the likes of say Sony or EMI. Labels such as 'One little Indian' which Skunk Anansie started on and a few other bands. It is also used to describe an alternative version of rock, influenced by it but doesn't quite categorise as rock. Brit Pop was coined to describe a particular movement in british popular music in the early nineties, the charts were full of Blur and Oasis, Supergrass, Kula Shaker, Ash, Cast etc etc. It was a time when traditional Atomic Kitten/Britney official 'pop' music wasn't doing very well in the british music charts. Brit pop was really led by Blur it was a resurrgence in british music which also coincided with a lot of indie stuff, so in a way brit pop is the name of the movement and indie was the type of music if you look at it that way. And the people responsible for the end of Brit Pop? as far as i can tell, that was the Spice
to add to the above, that means that neither indie or brit pop fall under the same category necessarily i.e. Skunk Anansie were 'indie' in the point of being on an independent label but they weren't 'indie' in what is referred to as the style of music. Blur i would say are 'indie' in style but Brit Pop in origin i.e. Brit Pop doesn't exist anymore because it was a particular movement in history just as the 70's are known for disco and the 80's for new romanticism, early 90s in britain are known for 'Brit Pop'
Wow you are a genius. That makes so much sense to me now. I was just confused as we now have signs at work that say "indie rock and Brit Pop" and i could not grasp how both fitted into the same catagory.

The Lightening Seeds, early Supergrass and The Beautiful South for example. That may be where the confusion comes from.
