Does anyone know what '25 Pal 420' is and means? Is it 420 by something? Does the 25 stand for DV or what?

Its in regards to resolutions and avid express I *think*

I'd imagine it would be 25fps, PAL resolution and 420 lines. It's lower quality than standard TV broadcast, but about equivalent to S-VHS recording.

thanks! I just had a major brain freeze and thus could not work out what it was. I knew 25 would have to be fps ... but I could not be positive.

erm i'd agree 25 frames per second 420 i would say refers to the way the Y U and V signals are sampled its a particular format. Others are 4:2:2 and 4:1:1, 4:2:0 is very common we use it all the time here at work in MPEG transmissions.

see here http://www.adamwilt.com/pix-sampling.html

wait that makes more sense ....

meh does not matter though. I worked out how to convert video to look like film and was trying to work out how to make the resolutions the same. I then realised .... err I will be editing in avid so it makes no differance avid will do it for me *g*
