Yesterday I'm at home, getting ready to go out, and my phone rings. I look at the number, and it's the second line at my mother's house, the one she never uses. Thinking, "this is odd," I pick it up and I hear my brother's voice saying, "...she lives at [her address], please send an ambulance or call 911

Oh Im glad to hear she is ok.
My family has very similar communication. Being the youngest they seem to think that I only need to be the last to know.

Oh man I would have freaked out a bit. My parents almost never call me during the week, so with my step-father having a heart condition whenever I see them calling during the week my first thought is always... "Oh Crap waht happened!"

LOL - that's like in "Moonstruck" when they wake up Olympia Dukakis and the first thing she says is, "Who died?"
