Because I haven't updated in a while and I have another hour until my next class starts... well, here it is.  I want to start off by noting that this semester, I'm FINALLY recognizing people from past classes and they are recognizing me as well (that is, other than the people I associate with on a more personal level)  Oh, and I did fine overall ( Read more... )

I mean, I guess it depends... if he's gay because he likes men, then no. But if its because he wants to be a woman, then yeah."

Fla---flames. Flames on the side of my face. Breathless--heaving--heaving breaths...

Oh, you cannot believe how mad I was when she was talking. I literally sputtered in my seat. I actually said "BWUH?" and was afraid to say anything in response, but had to speak up. (Plus, the girl beside me was cracking up at my response and hitting me in the arm saying "get her! Do it. Finish her with logic and skill!" So it was sort of my duty to fix the poor ignorant child.)

She is nuts but in the Civil War they had PTSD, they just called it something else. (And it was actually similar in that it was manifested in physical symptoms, more than emotional or social ones. Or that is what they focused on.)

I am NOT trying to be contrary, I swear, it was just kind of a cool thing I learned about and --

Yeah, she IS nuts though. ;)

They called it "Shell Shocked" before they called it PTSD, didn't they?

Yeah from WW1 on I think...before that was Soldier's Heart, and something else but I forget. Also if you were wounded and had PTSD it was 'more legit' (so it seems to me) than if you were just freaking out from war.

Did they call it Shell Shocked on M*A*S*H* too?

(And they may be changing/adding to PTSD for the DSM-5, I don't know why the heck I am so fascinated with the subject.)

No, i get what you're saying, and that makes sense... but she was talking about psychology-type stuff. Like "why didn't the shrinks see that the men coming back from war had the same thing that the "hysterical" women did?" AFAIK, there WERE no shrinks until ... Freud?

Wow, she sounds pretty dense. I guess all you can do is laugh, otherwise you might go crazy- I mean HYSTERical.

Oh, not only do I laugh, I take immense pleasure in contradicting her every chance I get. At least I did last semester, when the teacher loved me- might not be so lucky this time around. At the very least, I'll be keeping track of her comments so I can amuse myself- I did that in Astronomy last term when this weird guy kept asking inane questions and holding up lectures. Makes mid-term reviews more fun.

If I had exact quotes and hadn't been banned, yeah, it would be great. I'll make sure to write down her contributions this time, and who knows? Maybe I'll get over my distaste for that comm if it means I can share the hilarity of that chick.
