I had an appointment with Dr. Kletzker today about the severe decline in my hearing since the fall.
I'd had a minor ear infection with some drainage this fall and apparently have another perforation in my eardrum and a pocket where that fluid collected. Happily, the Antibiotics I took at the time managed to take care of the infection. Wheeeeee!
The plan is a Tympanoplasty (Rebuilding the eardrum using a graft from my own skin) and a "something I can't remember the technical name of" in which they rebuild my ear canal. He said he thinks the prosthetic bones in my ear from the original surgery are ok, but won't know for sure until he gets in there. There's a 50/50 shot he can go through the ear canal (can we say wow, microsurgery). If not, then he gets to peel my ear off my head again! Mmmmmm... fun.
This isn't as major as the first surgery, thankfully. I should be back to work within 5-7 days. Good news since my boss is having surgery soon to replace 3 of the discs in her neck.
I'm not overly concerned about all of this, just wanted to post it in case anyone was interested. This should restore my hearing. Hopefully. I'm tired of having to lean my head in one direction to hear people. Especially the voices of the men in my life. I have a really hard time hearing those low tones out of the left side.
