Day 22 - Favorite series finale
I know this question probably refers to the very last episode of a show, but...
I have never enjoyed a Doctor Who finale this much. For once, I wasn't left crying or upset by the way it ended. It's the first time (since Who came back in 2005) both The Doctor and the companion(s) have carried over to the next series.
I don't even mind that there are questions that went unanswered. In fact, I really don't think that ANYTHING was really answered. We still don't know why the TARDIS exploded or who caused it, we don't know anything about the silence or the sinister voice, and we still don't know anything about River Song. But I'm okay with that because with Moffat I feel confident that we will get answers, these won't all be left as gaping plot holes the way RTD was so fond of.
I thought the finale was brilliant. Complicated but understandable, funny but poignant, and most of all, happy. All I wanted out of the finale (but I got so much more) was for Rory to be alive. I love Rory, much more than I like Amy to be honest, and I was devastated when he died. I love the thought of The Doctor, Amy, and Rory out there exploring and saving the universe.
I loved Rory standing guard for 2000 years. I loved that he and Amy got married and are traveling with The Doctor. I love River Song and her spoilers. I even love the fez. I've heard people complain that bringing back all of The Doctor's enemies was wasted since all we got in the finale was a dalek, but I loved that. It was all unnecessary and would have been completely over the top a la RTD. The focus should have been on the characters and having to spend time on creatures would have taken away from the main characters and made the plot even more complicated than it was.
And, you know, the "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue" line might have been corny, but I LOVED it. That is probably the best description of the TARDIS I've ever heard. I adored the whole wedding reception scene.
I think my favorite scene was The Doctor tucking in Amelia and telling her the story. The Doctor is a fairytale and that was perfect. The bluest blue ever. :) Really, I loved all the scenes with young Amelia.
I'm sure I have a lot of thoughts that I'm forgetting because I've watched it 3 times, and I keep having a-ha! moments, but I really, really liked this entire series. The finale was everything I could have hoped for, and I'm really looking forward to Christmas and beyond.
