Speaking in terms of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender, etc. which do you feel is more important to teach children, TOLERANCE or ACCEPTANCE

acceptance is much more important in my opinion, i rather hear this sentence:
"I accept that you're gay because you're my son and I love you unconditionally."
of course it's also important to tolerate, but i don't want to be just tolerated for something i am. i want to be accepted. i think it hurts to be just tolerated.
To me, tolerance carries with in air of judgement and superiority. People tend to brag way more about how "tolerant" they are as though it's some sort of accomplishment they should be rewarded for. People talk about tolerating others as though it's some difficult task and they're so long-suffering. It's condescending, it's demeaning, and it's hurtful.
It's like you said: People don't want to be tolerated for who and what they are; we want to be accepted.
Also, on a side note, I freakin' love your icon. XD
