Tour of my Space, Redux Part One: India

Feb 21, 2010 17:11

So some of you saw my space before, when it was less complete. This is what needs to still be done:

India: New platform bed to get the mattress off the floor, new Sari silk duvet cover and more pillows (I know...more pillows?) Two more prints framed and hung. Until then:

(You may click photos to embiggen.)

Here is a peek through the doorway...enticing, no? Imagine yummy incense, because it is always there. Today it is "Maa" in honour of Durga, as the indian store was out of Ganesha incense. He must do with Nag Champa. Poor effelunt.

Behold the RadhaKrishna lamp below my picture of Durga. It is right next to the only outlet in the room, so all my electronics are plugged in right under it. It's not as lovely as the lamp.

My longer bookcase. It has mostly chachkis in it. Top shelf: journals, cigar box, SRK coasters, gold basket w/post-its, Kama Sutra Honey Dust Powder, candles and unguents. Second shelf, some books, My Raja/Rani plate (painted marble...it's lovely), Some sexy soap, A little decanter and glass, a stuffed heart and a fallen postcard (better tack that up.) I love how the fabric backing of the bookcase turned out.

A fuller pic of the bookcase with my "utility" shelf on it. After all, I do have to work here, too. A pile of tasks, a basket for mail/bills, kleenex, my purse, etc.

A shot of the bottom of the bookcase.

My dresser. I like how this turned out, too.

A close up so you can see the knobs I made a bit better.

The top of the dresser. Above, on the wall is a photo I took of the floral arrangements at my brother Daniel's wedding (probably the most visually gorgeous wedding I have ever been to.), and the painting Lore made me for Yule. I think it looks perfect there. On the bureau, my mirrored tray with all my perfume on it (I wear a lot more of that stuff lately), a photo box containing a photo I took of a vintage corset when I was in Chicago, an indian decorated mirror (face down in front of the photo box) my small jewelry box with a couple little jars and an empty photo frame in which I plan to put a picture of my hot Desi man, and in front a couple other little paisley boxes/tins.

Here is my red velvet chair (poor thing, so beat up) with a handmade throw over it and my little gold stool (also so beat up) in front of it. Above you can see the photo of a pomegranate I bought from the artist (Kate Pepper) years ago.

My Hindu altar with the beautiful pic of Radha/Krishna above. I love how she's got her hand on his flute. LOL. On the altar you can see Durga, Lakshmi and Shiva/Parvati. Also there's another postcard of Radha/Krishna. Lots of bells, a mortar/pestle, incense holder, candle holder, and more...

My tall bookshelf. At the top: Box, elephant, Oracle Cards, Next, box with matches, tea set, box of bindis. Next, Ganesha altar. Next, books, CDs, Pages of study re: India, Hindi, etc. Next, Books on India and Hinduism. Next, various books, hand sanitizer for my germiphobic lover.

Close up of the bookshelf.

The side of the shelf showing the finished paisleys. I like how they turned out.

My closet. Small, but I bought those space-saver hangers (As Seen On TV) And they are AWESOME! Note my SRK shrine. I put him in the closet so as to not intimidate anyone...LOL.

My new rug. Isn't it pretty? I was thinking about getting a more "persian" looking one, but this is the one that I kept going back to. An English style. My nod to colonialism. Heh heh.

Pillows, a beginning. Note the bed pillows encased in the rust/paisley cases...match the sheets.

As an afterthought, a shot of the top of my bureau so you can see the mehendi hands I painted there. Turned ut cool, I think.

The top of my short bookcase. A shell full of colorful potpourri (made in ...guess where), a bright colored tin, an indian cadle holder, and a soapstone plate. A Brighid candle for when I'm keeping vigil and am not in Ireland, peacock feathers in a vase (and you may be able to see my italian red glass bird there in front of it.) and a nice little box, which was made in China, but who's keeping track?

My trash can. I looked everywhere for a nice one that would go with the decor. Who thought I'd pay 24 dollars for a trash can, but the others I liked were even more expensive.

This was fun, but now it's an hour later than it was when I began, so I'll get back to Ireland in a while...I have a bit of jet lag.
