Unbalance (drabble challenge 39: dysrhythmia)

He thinks he might faint.

There’s white noise in his ears and the underlying beat of a heavy, far-away drum.

Speeding up, slowing down, doing both, neither and maybe skipping some.

Junsu’s never quite felt like this before.

Maybe, he thinks, he’s really pushed himself too far this time (his eyes roam over the figures twisting in the mirror). Maybe, he thinks, he really should have eaten breakfast, taken his vitamins, gone to church instead of forsaking it for bed (his eyes wander, rest, wander again. His eyes catch and-).

He slips, heart tripping over and over itself in rough syncopation.

He thinks, Am I dying? He doesn’t want to end this way, needs to make it to the top of the top-

Jaejoong is frowning from above him, saying something that doesn’t quite make it through the filter between his ears and sound and his breath hitches.

Junsu nods anyways, taking the slim hand offered him, answering questions he’s only vaguely aware of with his heart still trying to win some race.

He thinks he might be sick, but Jaejoong smiles at him and -

Oh, Junsu knows, Oh, so this is what it is to be in love.
