I save your messages
Just to hear your voice

Junsu hugs his knees to himself, and when the silence becomes too much to bear, reaches over the arm of the sofa to play the message on the answering machine.

Changmin sings to him, bittersweet and distant. A few of the notes are slightly off, but Changmin keeps going until the end. “Hey,” his voice is a little distorted and fuzzy. “You know I love you, right?”

I know you're closed eye watching me, listening
I thought I saw a smile

There’s a calendar in the apartment. It was a gift from someone, and it's the sort that displayed the date of every day individually on each page. You had to tear off one sheet daily to reveal the date of the next day, and so on.

Junsu walks the past the calendar on his way to the kitchen, his pants dragging on the floor.

The date is permanently displayed as the day Changmin left and never came back.

Junsu refuses to believe that with Changmin gone, the world can keep spinning, it’s just not right. The world should be grieving, he thinks, the world should be pausing to mourn the loss of the most beautiful person Junsu has ever known.

At my most beautiful
I count your eyelashes secretly

Junsu remembers that this is the last thing he said to Changmin, before the idiot went off and died:

“When you get back,” Junsu loops his arm around Changmin’s neck, tugging the taller boy downwards to kiss him. “You’re going to give me a massage.”

“Wait- why?” Changmin wrenches away. “How come you get a massage?”

“Because you owe me,” Junsu grins.

“Owe you?” Changmin repeats incredulously. “For what?”

“For loving you so damn much,” Junsu answers promptly. “I don’t care, you’re going to come back and give me a massage, or I’ll kill you.”

Changmin kisses him, and Junsu keeps his eyes open, and realises that Changmin has really, really long eyelashes that brush the skin on his cheeks when he shuts his eyes. He stares them until his vision goes blurry and he has to blink to see clearly again.

Changmin breaks the kiss, puts on his shoes, waves to Junsu and walks out of the house.

He doesn’t come back and give Junsu a massage. He doesn’t come back, doesn’t give Junsu a massage, and doesn’t give Junsu a chance to kill him for it.

He doesn’t come back at all.

Junsu is singing along to the message Changmin left on the answering machine two days ago when the call comes.

That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
