I'll be interested to hear what you will think of "The Orville" after having seen season 2. Because it took till episode 4 of that season when I seriously and totally unexpectedly started with all the fannish things. I had watched and liked it in season 1, but then promptly forgot about it again when it stopped airing. I was not following any fan forums, nor was I eagerly awaiting for the next season to air. I certainly wasn't reading any fanfictions ( ... )

I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and jump to season 2 now. I feel like season 1 has promise, but it's not gelling yet.

I don't know how you define "being fannish"

Good question! Like you, I think the need to read and write fanfic is a great indicator of my having crossed the line into "fannishness" about a show. There are definitely shows that I enjoy and look forward to, but don't feel at all "fannish" about: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is a good example. The season ended, and I'm not thinking about the characters, I'm not on edge waiting for the next season, I'm not seeking out fanfic, and I have no urge to write any fanfic. But I still think it's a great show.

I don't know, you can't force it. It either happens or it doesn't but when it does, it's wonderful. Literally butterflies in the belly. I'm really missing the excitement of looking forward to the next Doctor Who episode. I remember seeking out more stuff from David ( ... )

LJ says I talked too much. This is part 1/2:

I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and jump to season 2 now. I feel like season 1 has promise, but it's not gelling yet.I would advice against it. Not much left now and "Into the Fold" is a very important set-up for something that happens later. It develops Claire and Isaac. Also you need to see the last two "New Dimensions" and "Mad Idolatry" to see how the Ed/Kelly relationships develops, some great scenes in there. Actually "Cupid's Dagger" is important for that too, but this one is a bit controversial. I like it but I can see their point about some scenes. "Firestorm" is about Alara's character, to see her grow confidence. So, in a way, they're all important. Also, one of these episodes introduces Dann and you really really don't want to miss that! Dann is everyone's favorite. He is so out of touch with everything ( ... )

I know Avenue 5 is done by Armando Ianucci who used to do some really funny stuff, but I haven't liked his more recent stuff. Plus I really can't get on with Hugh Laurie doing an American accent, despite the premise sounding interesting. But then it's also on a channel I don't have so perhaps that's just as well.

Yes, it's on a channel I don't have, either. I really don't know why they're asking Hugh Laurie to use an American accent. He's good at it, but I'd rather hear his real accent.

I'm sort of hanging in there with DW partly because it is my last link really with fandom, partly because I actually do like the current Doctor and partly because I like Graham and the whole not just having one pretty female companion. The writers though...errhhh.

I suspect that I would like Thirteen if she had different writers. It drives me crazy to see our first female Doctor written as so ineffectual.
